Feeling, the best dancers have it
Poe One with New Blance M1500
Poe One
You can see everything on youtube from your home. But leaving your home... Social experience is important.

Catharsis No. 2 - Healing (10/25/13)
These don’t happen often at HHT, but when they do, the night becomes powerful. 10/25/13 is another night to remember. It was driven by emotion, power, release and healing.
The talk wasn't what I expected. It happened naturally and tied in everything we spoke on and listened to. From Def Jam Poetry, to Poe One’s interviews and finally to catharsis. The room was full of tension and feeling as Chikara asked, “What is your struggle?”
Everyone shared their struggle, their fear and their story. A cipher.
It was a much needed talk for everyone in the room. By having it, we've reached a new level of connection and understanding with each other, as a family. As disciples to hip-hop. Always learning, thinking, reflecting, expressing, changing and relearning. The process doesn't stop.
The moment I heard sniffling and tears from Amanda who was behind me, my emotions started getting to me. They did after watching Poe One’s interview Pt. 2. It got to me the last time I saw it at CFA and it had the same effect this time as well.
It’s ok to cry. It’s ok to release everything. We can’t cleanse ourselves of all the things we have done and of all the mistakes we have made, but we can admit to them. As cliché as this sounds, to get better, the first step is always to admit that something is wrong.
When it came to my turn, I stopped my emotions from getting to me. I have trouble communicating my thoughts and feelings. If I were to tear up then, I probably wouldn't have sounded coherent at all. Ryan had said some of things that I've wanted to say. It was the first time he had shared anything deep and personal about himself. It didn't happen the last time because we ran out of time.
But time couldn't beat us tonight.
The feeling of inadequacy that I've talked about with Kwadwo in a recent conversation. The struggle and fear that you’re not able to provide your best for the people you care about and love. The feeling of always desiring to help and give to others but not wanting to receive. I lost my train of thought at some point.
I revealed a bit more about myself this time. The me a few years ago isn't the me now. ‘Depressed’ or feeling a certain way for many years now, I've grown tired of it. Guilt-ridden, and my desire to strive to be the best for the people I care about. I need to repent for hurting and for immaturity in the past. I can’t make any of it back up to anyone so the guilt will live on. I don’t know if I’ll ever be free from it. But I’m trying my best to improve myself and to become a better person.
Until recently, I have no idea why I danced and continued to dance. I realized that I needed breaking because it was my drug to stress, anxiety and sadness. I no longer want to see breaking that way. I want to enjoy and love breaking. More importantly, I want to continue growing with everyone. What motivates me the most during practice is seeing everyone around me practice hard, become innovative, smile and have fun. What makes me most comfortable during a battle is the family I battle with.
I have much more I wished to share, but maybe soon. We were running out of time. And there’s a place and time for everything to be said. My goals this year is to become that better person I wish to be, to continue providing and giving to the people I care about, to stop seeing breaking as medication and lastly, to become more open. I want to spill all the secrets I've accumulated throughout all the years I have felt this way. Suffocation.
I wonder if I’ll ever heal completely. I don’t know but I want to make progress.
I want to thank hip-hop, PM and UBBD for empowering me. For giving me the voice to speak. For making me brave. For allowing me to see and experience so much. For giving me unforgettable times, laughter, joy and silence. For allowing me to connect with a great, irreplaceable group of people.
I’ll continue my journey into hip-hop forever. I’ll continue reading and studying. To break down and re-structure myself. To give myself the self-identity I never had.
This is important to me. We don’t learn about the way humans feel and think inside classrooms. Classrooms are war zones, competitions and contests. Outside the classroom is where we achieve insight and discover.
