Not A Fling

Movement was first. I'm not talking about rules or lessons because I'm not an authority to give them, but I'm in this for so long and I want to share my thoughts to encourage thinking on your own. Trevor3000

I belong to one family.

Everybody else calls it "crew". We don't own boats :D

Before, I "belonged" to a crew. It felt forced and unreal. I was ashamed to dance in front of my crew members. I kept looking down. It never felt right. We didn't dance. We talked. About insignificant things and people. We talked about dance. TALKED. about. DANCE.

Now I have a family. Three kids I met. They are my parents, they are my brothers and sisters, they are my children. They teach me everything.

I will not watch dance videos anymore...

My friend - who is a bboy - stopped watching videos 8 months ago. He said "they kill creativity". I also think the same. But before hearing it from him, I didn't have the courage to do it. I thought I need those mpegs and MOVs and whatnots uploaded on the web. They don't help me at all. Even in the back of my mind, I have an image of a dance I love, image imposed by others, shamelessly selfpromoting their style.

I won't even make exceptions. I'll skip Juste Debout qualifications, I'll skip the main event...

Think I need this to evolve on my own. To be hungry again.

Train your ear. Only events you go are contests? Take a break and go to a concert that can rejuvenate your passion for music. Without music there is no dance.

Not all "hip hop" is HIP HOP.

What you hear on the radio, what you see on tv, what you get in dance schools... It's not all hip hop. But there is hip hop if you know where to look.

I'm dancing hip hop freestyle.

Depending on the context - it can be called "social dance". Sometimes. But it's not new style, or new york style, or L.A. style, or juste debout style, or les twins style.

Don't worry about the name, worry about what you stand for.

Even though I'm no one special, I have an opinion and the need to express it. But I won't. Expressing it would do no good for the greater good, it would be expressed just to satisfy my selfish need. The world isn't only about me.

All I will say - don't jump in the limelight when someone else is performing, it's not about you.
