OKAY, FAM, I HOPE YOU ARE READY, BECAUSE FRIENDS TO LOVERS WITH POE DAMERON HAS TO INCLUDE AT LEAST SOME OF THE FOLLOWING...

this man

he is so cocky and flirty and annoying, and you hate it when you first meet him 

and you know that he’s one of the best pilots the resistance has and that he’s saved countless people

but damnit, you’re in the middle of a rebellion

would it kill him to realize the very real danger all of you are in???

meanwhile, poe is having the time of his life annoying you

it’s just so easy

you are known for being the hard, serious pilot who always follows the rules, and poe is the only one with guys enough to joke with you

it lifts everyone’s spirits, and poe knows more than anyone that everyone needs some light in their day

and if poe likes the way you look when your pissed off and hyper-focused on him, well... that’s just an added perk to the job

and if his cocked eyebrow and lip bite frustrate you, then he’ll just do it more

damn poe and damn his reckless ideas and stupid pretty face

the entire resistance is aware of what poe is trying to do

and they are actually supportive of it because it’s been a while since they had something to bet money on that wasn’t a battle plan or had to do with the likelihood that general leia was going to slap someone

people would frequently tell poe where you were hiding out so he could annoy you

it also didn’t help that you were pretty close to rey and finn (who was inseparable from poe) always seemed to be able to find rey, no matter where she would go

your staunch rivalry with him was ruined, tho, when he saved you on a mission, going against orders 

he was supposed to leave you behind for the better of his squadron.

it was reckless and dangerous for everyone else to save you

but poe doesn’t leave anyone behind

and you are, needless to say,  p i s s e d

“dameron, you idiot, you were supposed to leave me!”

“i think what you mean is ‘thank you, poe. your courage saved my life.’”

“is this a joke to you? you’re squad could have died.”

“not with me leading them - and they didn’t!”

“you don’t get it! if everyone gets as cocky as you and decides to not follow rules, people will die and our resistance will crumble! this is about more than your ego!”

“no, if more people were able to make calculated risks when the heat is on, less people will die!”

“i can’t risk that!”

“well, you’re not the only person to lose people because of a lapse in judgement!”

and he is mad

and it hits you that this is the first time you’ve ever really seen him like this - upset and hurt

when he speaks again, his voice is low

“i’ve lost too many people because command is too far away to give an effective strategy. i’m not going to lose friends because someone who has never piloted a ship thinks they know how to kill the most tie fighters.”

“not every dead pilot is your fault.”

“aren’t they?”

and you have a new respect for poe after that

there is no one more dedicated to the cause than him, no one more selfless and caring

and the rest of the resistance is making bets on what happened between you two

there are rumors that the two of you made out after you were cleared by the medics, and finn does nothing to deny the rumors

he knows what actually happened, tho

poe keeps him updated

the two of you still keep your banter - it was never harmful anyway

“are you going to die trying to save me again, flyboy?”

“given that you always seem to get in dire situations by following that little com of yours, i might just have to.”

he winks

it makes you smile, sometimes, and poe lives for that

and if you start to fall for poe, your good at hiding it

“you’re going to get yourself killed following orders, (y/n).”

“then you can tell my corpse that you get the last laugh.”

but the two of you are actually really good friends

and  s t a r s  do you care about him. more than you probably should.

but telling him?

“you’re a complete idiot, poe.”

“but you love me.”

“sure.”

but poe will get you to fall for him eventually

it’s only a matter of time

“be careful. my family is pretty dangerous.”

BEING POE DAMERON’S SISTER AND BEFRIENDING FINN HAS TO INCLUDE...

poe is  h e l l a  protective

so when you said you wanted to join the resistance, he was immediately against the idea

“i’m in charge of you, (y/n), and i say no.”

“c’mon, poe, you’re a pilot like mom was! why can’t i be a soldier like dad?”

“because i’m in charge, and i can kill myself and live with it. if you died, where would i be?”

“...you could kill yourself and live with it?”

“you’re not winning this argument.”

but a dameron is nothing if not persistent, and when poe visits you one day totally unscheduled and bleeding with a limp, you have had it

he says you were closer than a base, and you immediately start to patch him up, a tense silence between the two of you

“you’re going to let me join the resistance.”

“and why would i do that? so you can look like me?”

“so i can help you! you don’t want me to be a soldier, fine. but i’m going to be a part of the resistance as a medic, and you can’t say you don’t need me, poe.”

“i’m not winning this argument, am i?”

“i will track you to that base if that’s what it takes.”

and he sighs

“you’ll be a medic?”

“i can patch you up every time you make some idiotic move - it’ll be like when we were kids.”

“hey, most of my idiotic moves were to protect you.”

“and that’s not what you’re doing now?”

and when you get to the base, we all know you can’t keep your word for long

good thing you never promised

it wasn’t exactly your fault - you talked with soldiers for your job

and when they said they could use all the help they could get, you were available.

and you were good with rifles and could hold your own

and you already knew everyone - you had shooting competitions with them in your downtime

and, maker, if you weren’t one hell of a shot

and when poe catches wind of it, he is  l i v i d

“they need help, poe! do realize how many soldiers could be saved if they had a soldier who doubled as a medic?”

“no, (y/n). we’ve had this talk before.”

and his voice is tight and even though you’re yelling, his voice is low

“this is different than before! i’m a part of the resistance, poe! it’s my job! it’s my calling!”

“my word is final.”

“you can’t stop me poe, the resistance needs me.”

“AND I NEED YOU!”

and he screams at you, his voice raw with emotion

and there’s silence

and you look at him

and you move closer slowly

and you sit down next to him

and you take a deep breath

“and you’ll always have me.”

and there are tears in his eyes

and he doesn’t say a word

“but, poe, i watched you for years go out and put your life on the line so that others could one day have the chance to live freely. now it’s my turn to do what you did.”

“i can’t lose you, (y/n). you’re my baby sister. i’m responsible for you.”

“and as my older brother, you’ve created quite the reputation for me to live up to. now it’s my time to show you i can.”

and he’s silent for a while

“go make me proud.”

and you really do make a good soldier

and even though poe has allowed you to do that, he always gets tense when you have to leave

“now you know how it feel, hot shot.”

“i’m your older brother - i’ve always known how it’s felt, sharpshooter.”

and things were good for a long time

and then poe gets captured

and you want to scream and cry and say nothing at all because he said he could die and live with it, but he never considered being tortured into a state beyond death

but this had been a fear of yours for too many years now, and it was finally realized

and when he comes back you don’t know what to do other than hold him and never let go

and then he’s introducing you to a friend, someone he picked up along the way

and he doesn’t tell you who this newcomer is, but you know he is a soldier - it’s in the way he walks, the way he looks around, even the way he speaks

there’s something there and you would figure out what

“so... finn, was it?”

“yeah. and you’re poe’s sister?”

“guilty as charged. i’m a soldier for the resistance.”

and he pales a little at that

how many had he killed? how often could he have been shooting at you?

“soldier, huh?”

“yeah. care to show me any tricks?”

“...tricks?”

“c’mon, finn, you’re a soldier. i can recognize my own. teach me something valuable.”

and he gets hung up on that word: valuable

because for the first time he’s something greater than just another body - he’s valuable.

“i might know a thing or two.”

and he’s good, he knows a lot

and when you find out he was a stormtrooper, it’s not a surprise

just a missing puzzle piece fitting into the puzzle

and he’s shocked that you don’t think anything of it

“we all come from somewhere, right?”

and that’s how he finds out how you used to help poe run spice

and the two of you are great on the battlefield - especially when together

you cover each other’s blind spots and can move together in sync

you pull the crazy stunts, and somehow he seems to know what you are about to do before you even do it?

you joke one time that he’s a regular jedi, and that gets finn thinking...

and finn was slow to warm up to you, but you are infectious, really

it’s the dameron charm

but you help him numerous times:

saving him on the battlefield

saving him from infected wounds

patching him up on the battlefield

patching him up in the medbay because finn doesn’t complain until it’s almost too late

giving him adivce on his crush on rey

the list goes on

and the two of you often stay up late, talking about the lives you have lived - the stories you have

no one had ever really cared about finn’s experiences before the resistance, and to see you actively listen to his best and worst moments is a treat he never thought he would like

and finn is a storyteller

there’s something about the way he weaves words that makes you hold onto them

there’s something in his tone of voice that creates images across your skull

and there’s something about the moods he can inflict that keep you on the edge of your seat

but all that prowess with language is lost the minute he sees rey

it’s cute, almost, if it weren’t so damn annoying

“rey...”

“finn.”

and you have to kick him to get him to speak up

“how are you?”

and you can see by the look on her face that she is worried something is wrong

“good... you?”

“better.”

and poe is sitting next to you, and he looks at you like this is somehow your doing

and you look at poe, sending the message that it was his turn to help finn get some game

but he just raises an eyebrow at you, wondering if it’s possible

but at the end of the day, you know that no matter what, finn and poe are there for you

and maybe with a bit more of your pushing, they two of them would get together

because you know you secretly ship it way more than rey and finn
