I cannot comprehend how you do not want
To soar the sky on tawny feathered wings
And see the land below you, spread out
Like a puzzle you have solved
Knowing that you, you of all people,
Are above the problems of others
Feel the wind on your face, tears in your eyes
Until they spill over and freeze on your cheeks
The wind whips away your laughs, tears the breath from your lungs
Mouth goes dry, limbs go numb
Your body is no longer yours to control, to love or to hate
Except for your wings, the wings that keep you suspended
And may someday bring you back down to Earth
Where your body and your problems become real again.
I cannot comprehend how easily you dismiss my dream.
