I think the reason it took me so long to come about on Bill/ford even partially was the fact that I like two very specific be explored in their story and that is

1. Humanity and the supernatural (specifically the very far removed supernatural) and how they can affect and change each other

2. Abuse, manipulation, how it manifests and how it changes through the course of an abusive relationship

I think due to TBOB making Bill more sympathetic (which imo makes him all the more terrifying) and deepening the dynamic between the two in the way it did, it opened a gateway to a weird sort of "woobification" so to speak and as someone who majorly recognises sign of their own abuse in what Ford went through seeing their relationship without the layers it requires makes me squimish at best. But that being said I do enjoy the dynamic when explored with the grace it requires.

I also really enjoy Bill as a villain, he's a lotta fun and I like that TBOB keeps him as this person who does want to keep causing chaos and keeps tricking people (including us as the reader), while still adding layers onto him. They never excuse his evil, they just contextualise it and thats something a lot of works lack nowadays, that makes me appreciate it even more.
