“Really?” That was a lot to ask… which is why she hadn’t asked him to do that at all. Surely, she’d dreamt of being with him, what it was like, where they would go, but none of those ideas had ever become serious considerations. They couldn’t be. His life was at stake. “You would do that for me?” she inquired, nonetheless, incredibly touched and smiling as if on the verge of crying. “Nobody has ever risked so much just for me.” And that thought did cause tears to well up in her eyes — tears that she quickly wiped away with a single hand. The smile seemed to have been wiped off along with those pearly drops. She mustn’t get so caught up in her emotions. No matter how much she loved him, this couldn’t happen ( not like this, anyway ). His life meant more to her than the few days, maybe mere hours, that they could have together.
“But you can’t. Ambrose, you’ll DIE, if they find out. I won’t let you do this.”
