Point Imperial - May 2018 This image, like yesterday’s, was taken from the lookout at the tip of Imperial Point. The difference is that this image is the view when facing more-or-less south. It would be very easy to believe that these views were from totally different areas, but this great variation is typical of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. MWM
Point Imperial - May 2018 Point Imperial is one of those viewpoints that you don’t drive past. If you got here, you intended to be here... or you were lost. Point Imperial is at the end of a three-mile, dead-end road, but it is absolutely worth the short drive. There is even a small picnic area at the turn-around. This view is facing more-or-less north while standing on the lookout. I wondered if the natural obelisk in the distance had any bearing on the point being called “Imperial,” but there was nothing in the literature and I never did get around to asking one of the rangers.
