There are many ways to earn points around HOL. The first and foremost way, of course, is by doing homework, so make sure to keep track of your classes and their deadlines if you want to keep those house points coming in.
Many classes offer 30 points for homework and 30 points for extra credit every month, although many do not have monthly deadlines. Instead, they simply state that all assignments must be sent in by a certain date around the end of term to count. All HOL classes are allowed to offer 300 points per term.

The HOL library has various projects going on at different times of the year. Projects in this category offer between 10-30 points, depending on the complexity of the current projects.

Getting Into Harry Potter
Currently the only project open in the library is one asking you to describe what first got you interested in Harry Potter. It is worth 10 points, so if you have not already done it, why not head over and tell us how you got into Harry Potter?
Apart from the regular projects, there is an ongoing project where HOL is creating its own version of all the Harry Potter canon books and more. If you want to write a chapter for one or more books head over and claim a book and get writing. You can claim up to three chapters at a time.
All chapters should be between 300 and 500 words long.
Once you have finished a chapter, you can claim a new one. That means that this is a limitless source of points! But remember that the requirement for quality is high here.
Worth 10 points per chapter.
Like the library, the Art Department also has different projects running at different times of the year, and also offers points in the same general range.
Here, it is also worth keeping your eyes open for opportunities.
If you have not already created a trading card for yourself, this project is always open and allows you to make a card with a bit of data about your HOL character and a picture. And you even get a frame that suits your house! It's a cool projects and when you have done it, you'll not just have earned 10 points for yourself and your house, but also have a cool trading card that will be displayed on your profile.
The activities in this forum often offer not only the honour and bragging rights as rewards for participating (or evening winning!), but also points, and often a quite significant amount, too. If you want to earn a little bit extra, keep checking back here, and join the fun.
Although sign up is already closed and the opportunity for points therefore only applies to those already signed up, I wanted to mention it anyway, if for no other reason, than to encourage those already signed up to continue raking those points in.
The game consists of 10 rounds, with three tasks being offered for each round. Each completed task, if done correctly, will earn 5 points. That is a grand total of 150 points.
Up to 10 additional points are available for an in-game achievement. So in total, the activity could offer a whooping 160 points.
Rowena Ravenclaw's Test of Logic
You do not have to sign up to join this challenge, and you can jump in any time. Despite what the name might suggest, it is open to everyone, not just Ravenclaws. During each week between the beginning of November to the end of January, a new logic puzzle will be posted, each of them worth 10 points if solved correctly.

Each house has a newspaper that of course primarily contains content made by members of that house, but that is not to say that everyone else can't participate!
All the newspapers are open to all members of HOL to both read and submit to. If you want to write for your own house newspaper, great! If you want to write for another house's newspaper, that’s just as great! Just jump into it!
The Pawprint is the Gryffindor newspaper, and for each issue you can earn 50 points.

They accept submissions of both written material and graphics, but ask that you post in the thread on their forum before you start writing, so they can keep a certain diversity of submissions and don't end up with 19 articles about one topic.

For each issue there will be a theme, and you can submit two graphics that sum up what the theme means to you. In addition you must provide a small description of why your moment fits the theme. This description cannot be more than 50 words long.

A list of 15 words will be posted, and for each word you manage to include in your story you get one point. The story must be at least 250 words long, but can of course be longer!

For each issue, five superlatives will be listed. Everyone can then nominate other HOL'ers whom they think fit the description, along with a reason for why that person deserves it.
This task is worth 5 points.

This is an additional opportunity to submit content to the Alte Sententiam.
For each issue, there will be a theme for which you can submit two drabbles - a work of fiction of exactly 100 words - and two photographs. All must be original work. Each of the four are worth 5 points.

For each prompt you can write a short story, worth 10 points. For each issue you can submit two stories (at least two that you can get credit for).
They must of course relate to your chosen prompt and they should be at least 300 words long and preferably less than 1500 words.
