Going online to his Facebook you can see every wonderful detail of his life. Every aspect that he chooses to share with the world. You see his thoughts posted daily, pictures of his life, quotes and anecdotes that he finds witty. You see his adventures, his dreams, his goals; all laid out in an easy, navigable format. All it takes is one *click* to go from one stage of his life to the next.
Did you notice the key word up there?
That’s right, it’s “chooses”.
Every aspect that he CHOOSES to share.
Unlike some people, what he chooses to share is very limited. He shows you the highlights, the summary, the overall picture. He shows you the good things. Why not right? Who wouldn’t want to show themselves in a good light? Who would post the bad things? Who would ever be honest… really? Take a look at his Facebook. I know you have before. You see the status update, you see the pictures of fun, of exhilaration, of happiness. You notice the smiles and the excitement and the amazing time that is shown.
What he doesn’t upload is the true story. You think to yourself how happy he must be. Except he doesn’t post about that shaking feeling as he turns his back to the taillights. Or how he spent 10 minutes crying in a single stall airport bathroom. He doesn’t post a picture of the empty seat next to him, or of the extra mug that was destined for chai tea. He doesn’t describe the one room apartment with dirty dishes and an unmade bed. He never posts notes about the loneliness or the dread. And never about the heartache.
Instead you get smiles in perfectly poised pictures. Think to yourself now, do you really know him? Do you even care to see behind the curtain? Sometimes it’s better off being ignorant.
