It might be time to admit my lack of bookshelf space is less 'enthusiastic reader' and more 'fire hazard.' In the last week I've had the absolute pleasure of meeting two of my favourite authors from the last couple of years, Samantha Shannon and Tasha Suri, and sitting in the same room as Judith Butler. Actual Judith Butler!!! I am never recovering. Might have to do a philosophy masters after I've finished my actual masters. I also made a tit of myself explaining to Tasha how to spell my name incorrectly, but I don't think I've ever gone to an author event and not made a tit of myself, so. If you need me I'm looking up bookcases. And probably won't leave the house after 8pm for at least another year, I dunno how you lot do it.
I am going to be doing A Thing(tm) in a couple of weeks, which you can attend if you're interested! For free! On March 14 at 7:30pm EST, I'm joining three other authors for a conversation about our books, and gothic fiction in general. It should be a fun mix: Salty is historical fantasy with gothic vibes, A Place For Vanishing is a YA gothic horror, The Arsenic Eater's Wife is a gothic murder mystery based on a real life criminal case from the late 19th C, and The Devil and Mrs Davenport, which I'm currently devouring, is a gothic, midcentury suburban domestic drama.
Tickets are available here through Eventbrite. We'd love for you to come hang out with us!
Rebecca Zahabi and Jonathan Sims discuss their latest books THE HAWKLING and FAMILY BUSINESS
MANCHESTER (and surrounding county and metropolitan areas)! Do you love epic fantasy, with unique magic systems, phenomenal world-building, and rich characters? Do you love horror that is grounded in social issues, representative of the best and worst of society, and haunts the shadows in the corner of your brain? Do you love watching someone with mild-to-moderate social anxiety attempting to host an event?
On 31st May, @jonnywaistcoat - Jonathan Sims himself - and the wonderful Rebecca Zahabi will be chatting about their books at Blackwell's on Oxford Street. These two creative powerhouses will be sharing their wisdom from 6:30pm. Tickets are £3.00, or free with an order of THE HAWKLING or FAMILY BUSINESS.
Rebecca Zahabi's first book in the series, THE COLLARBOUND, is also currently £2.99 on Kindle, so you can be ready and raring for THE HAWKLING and this event.
Jonathan Sim's first novel, THIRTEEN STOREYS, is currently on Kindle at £4.99 as well, for getting your spooky on.
