An influential text on the study and practical application of psychedelic substances for entheogenic or consciousness expanding purposes. It was one of few books that provided the detailed first hand experience of working with these allies beyond mere speculation. It was written in 1994 and there had been a new revised edition. I recommend reading both, especially the first edition because that is where all of the practical information is. The first half of the book is some shamanic philosophy and first hand entheogenic experience from various sources including the author’s.
