More fic from that Gym Leader AU!! This time staring ice-type Gym Leader Argit and @mellenabrave‘s oc Gadget
“You know it’s gonna be hard for them to find you out here when your pokemon are fixed up.” Argit sat down beside the young trainer, leaning back against the wall as she grumbled incoherently at him. “Let me guess, first loss to a gym leader?”
“Kenny and Devlin beat you easy,” Gadget exclaimed, openly sulking, “and Kenny lost to two of the earlier gym leaders his first time through! The first one beat him three times!!” Argit forced himself not to chuckle- of course his Pierce and his ground types had given Kenny ‘fire is the best type’ Tennyson a hard time- and slung an arm around her shoulders.
“Kenny and Devlin have spent more of their lives in my gym than I have,” he said. “Heck, Devil’s Froslass was sired by my Glalie. Anyway, most people lose to me their first time through, and you almost weren’t one of them. You did great!” She blushed a little, ducked her head, but she smiled at him. “It was pure luck that I had my Beartic lined up, otherwise that Scrafty of yours would’ve swept.”
“She was doing a good job.” Gadget smiled up at him and Argit grinned back.
“I don’t think I’ve seen Aurorus and Abomasnow fall that easily in years. Your parents gotta be proud having such a skilled trainer in the family.” Her face fell back into its sulk and she drew her knees up to her chest.
“Don’t have any,” Argit just barely heard her mumble, he cringed, “they abandoned me when I was-” Gadget made a ‘tiny’ gesture.
Argit bit back the first response that hit his tongue. He’d been around a time or two, and until Kevin had forced the League to give him a chance his life had been full of the what was normally considered the wrong crowd. This wasn’t the first time he’d seen a child on their journey who had no home to go back to, but it had been a long while and the roiling anger under his skin he’d thought had faded away years ago.
“Well that was stupid,” he finally settled on, frowning but otherwise trying to hide the worst on his anger. Abandoned this, a child he already knew through the boys and their battle was talented, loyal, enthusiastic, intelligent- How dare they. “Some people wouldn’t know a good thing if it walked up and bit ‘em on the ass.” When she looked up she clearly wasn’t exactly happy, but there was a tentative smile under her surprise at his reaction.
“Yeah,” she said, though she didn’t sound convinced, “they wouldn’t.” Looking her over- clothing that wasn’t the right size, boots that he knew damn well were the ones offered for use in his gym (otherwise trainers would get frostbite before they reached him, and he couldn’t think of many reason someone would steal those ratty things if they had a better option), a demeanor that was way too familiar for him to be comfortable- and made a decision. He stood and began digging in his pockets.
“Here,” he said, handing her a pokeball, “I meant to evolve her into a Glaceon, but getting out of the gym long enough to find the right area…” It wasn’t wholly the truth, but she didn’t have to know that. “There’s a shop three blocks down and to the left that sells evolution stones, and a lady down the street’ll give your pokemon massages for a decent price.” Gadget’s eye was wide and admiring as she looked from him to the pokeball and back. Argit grinned again at her. “I’m trusting you can take care of her?” She nodded excitedly.
“Yes sir!”
“Good. Have a good night, Gadget.” Nodding politely, Argit turned and headed back toward his gym.
“Wait, Mr. Argit, sir?” He stopped at the entrance of the small alleyway and looked back at her. The pokeball was clutched tight in her hand and she looked nervous.
“Yeah, kitten?”
“Could we,” Gadget fidgeted, “could my team and I practice in the gym? To get used to the field?” Argit’s smile was softer this time.
“Of course, you can,” he said. “In fact, there’s some spare rooms for visiting family. I don’t know if the boys were intending on using them, but either way you’re more than welcome to for as long as you’re in town.”
The way her face lit up probably would’ve melted all the ice and snow he’d carefully cultivated in his gym, and he wouldn’t have even cared.
“Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. You should probably go in and check on your pokemon before you do anything else though.” He watched, still smiling, as she got to her feet. She was nodding frantically and looking at him like he was her personal hero.
“I will! See you tomorrow!”
“See you then.” Argit kept an eye on her until she was safely through the doors of the Pokemon Center this time before heading back down the road. A kid like that, abandoned. It just wasn’t right, she deserved better.
He was going to have to have another talk with Ken about kids...
8 and Manvin
the one where your soulmate’s first words to you are written on your body
Not many people could say they wished they’d lost their entire arm to a spooked Houndoom, rather than just a hand, but Manny felt his point of view was justified. After all, losing just that hand had meant he’d lost just the first word of the first sentence his soulmate would say to him.
It wasn’t a nice sentence.
‘Oh, look, it’s a dickweed.’
He felt he was perfectly justified in not wanting that on him. Ever since the words had appeared a few years ago he’d been trying to keep from looking at them, had dreaded meeting his soulmate and planned how he was going to respond. Probably with a solid punch, though now he had a Zweilous to sic on them so maybe he could do that instead. It’d be nice, seeing the jerk put in their place. Especially since today it was too hot to wear long sleeves, meaning any layperson on the street could chuckle behind their hands at the insult on his arm.
Stepping into the pokemon center was a relief in more ways than one. Manny sighed at the blast of cold air, heading, almost on autopilot, to the front desk. He handed over his team- Zweilous, Mightyena, Primeape- and collapsed into one of the nearby chairs. The place was packed, full to the brim with trainers and coordinators either chatting with each other, tending to pokemon, or just hanging out. His eyes settled on one trainer across the aisle.
The guy looked to be around his age, and wasn’t much smaller than he was, with scars, dark hair, and a number of piercings. In his lap, sat a small ball of blue fuzz, with an equal sized ball on the end of it’s long black tail. It wore a bell attached with a sparkly pink ribbon and was getting a mountain of cuddles from it’s trainer. Manny snorted.
“That is the pansiest looking pokemon I’ve ever seen,” he said. The trainer looked up at him with a fierce glare, looking him over and holding his pokemon closer. His lips twisted into a sneer.
“Oh, look, it’s a dickweed.”
I just realized we never established how Manny got his prosthetic in the Pokemon AU.
Nasty incident involving a Houndoom, the whole hand had to go.
He tries not to hold it against the species because it wasn’t the poke’s fault but he still doesn’t really like them.
Oh, look, fic for that gym leader au! Centering around Argit and Pierce!
They weren’t, close.
It wasn’t that they didn’t get along, although honestly they didn’t, it was just that… Well they had gone in different directions. Very different directions. Yet still ended up in the same place which really aggravated Pierce.
People were always surprised by that, thinking they should have been closer, more in tune. After all they were both pokemon trainers- now gym leaders- they both preferred to read, had the same taste in food, wore their hair the same, both had Sandslash (both swore up and down that their own was the better of the two), both preferred not to get into a fight but would beat you down if pushed to. But beyond these things, they just weren’t the same. Pierce was quiet, athletic, honest, reserved. Argit was talkative, selfish, greedy, outgoing, and preferred sewing and knitting to athletics.
When Pierce had been eighteen he had been accepted into the police force. That same year Argit, nineteen, had been the center of a spinarak-web of crime. What more was there to be said?
The only things they consistently agreed on were that Eragon was a shitty book, if anyone hurt their sister they’d take whatever was left when she finished with them and burn it, and that pokemon were amazing.
Apparently in some families that last one was enough.
Certainly, in most families both becoming gym leaders in the same region would help with bonding. (Pierce wasn’t sure why someone who had done time was allowed to be a gym leader, but unfortunately he couldn’t complain. Argit had seemingly done nothing but a good job in the past decade or so.) Not for the two of them. They hardly spoke. Rarely saw each other unless somebody else arranged it, normally Helen or one of the other gym leaders. When they did get together all they had to discuss was work and the occasional book. Once in a blue moon they’d exchange holiday or birthday cards. If it weren’t for their sister, they probably would never talk. If they weren’t in the same region they would probably never see each other.
Which is probably why that group that had been running around, talking about destroying humanity to free more space for pokemon, hadn’t been expecting them to storm their Cryghoul base together, the claws of their Sandslash glinting in unison and Argit’s Glalie tanking hits for Pierce’s Flygon.
Another thing they had in common, for two men who didn’t exceed 5’4”, they could really loom.
Pokemon AU: Whenever Cooper and Alan started to cuddle, Manny would send his Hydreigon over to get in between them.
Oh like that’s gonna work, massive cuddlebug like Hydreigon a group cuddle is plausible. He’d have better luck going for Mightyena
peskypearl said: The second he walks in, he’s tackled to the ground by his Skiddo.
“Holy shit, I didn’t think he could get tackled by non-fire types”
