Stuck with another monkey. . . .
Sanzo’s needs are really very few, most of them simple. However, one desire he has—besides wanting his sutra back up to par and freedom—that has been hard to fulfill in this city so far, has been trees. He has spent many years of his life traveling by foot. As a result, he finds being surrounded by nature a necessary part of his life. Thus, he found himself leaving Sector 6 through a gate of vines to District Mu, which has a forest surrounding it. It was an annoying trek, but worth it to be under green leaves. He has no need of anything besides some peace and quiet, so he enters the forest only enough to be fully submerged in green, then stops. He leans against a tree and doesn’t move for over an hour, at which point it’s only to take out a cigarette and light up.
Sanzo is just starting to smoke his cigarette when a tug on the sleeve of his robe interrupts his meditative calm. Looking down, Sanzo sees a purple monkey-type creature, with a cheeky grin across its face and a tail that ends in a hand. A hand that is entangled in the fabric of Sanzo’s robes.
“‘Ch. What do you want?” Sanzo demands as he tries to tug his sleeve out of the monkey’s grip without ripping the fabric. It chitters a series of sounds at him and curls its fingers in his sleeve a bit deeper. “I don’t know what you’re trying to say to me.” Sanzo informs it tersely. The smile drops just a fraction and it pulls again at his robes.
“I lose one bakasaru, only to pick up another.” Sanzo grumbles as he unclasps the fingers one by one, yanks his sleeve out of reach, and stalks back toward the forest’s entrance.
“What?” Sanzo snarls as he whips around. The damn thing chatters at him intelligibly again. It can’t want the cigarette, so why does it keep bothering him?
Suddenly, the thing’s tail reaches up and grasps Sanzo’s shoulder. Next thing he knows, the little shit is sitting on his shoulder, running its fingers through his hair.
“You little—” Sanzo reaches up and tries to pull it off but it clings to his head. Sanzo snarls and sits in the middle of the path so he can use all his concentration on getting the bakasaru off.
Well, it does come off. . .
with a few strands of his hair, which it holds up to the light, mesmerized, before chirping at him gleefully.
“Hn, that’s what you wanted?” Sanzo scowls. “Fine, stay here now.” He goes to leave again.
Sanzo ends up walking back to Sector 6 with a purple monkey pattering behind him, tugging on his robes every five-ten seconds, and chattering up at him. Occasionally it jumps onto his shoulder like he’s its own personal jungle gym. The walk that took him half an hour before is tripled due to Sanzo’s repeated efforts to get rid of the stupid thing.
“That stupid kappa is right, I am a small animal tamer.” Sanzo grumbles, finally resigned to his tag-along. “Bakasaru.” The monkey grins as if its pleased at its new “name.”
