Slayers Artober day 17: Indie
I forgot to share this... It's Ponta and Pokota again. But this time I didn't draw them in their chibi form unlike my first drawing of them.
Also I made the background with images from the Frutiger Aero Archive the night sky is custom made I had to search up a night stary sky image and remove the background and use a gradient on it. Just to make it a little nostalgic.
Rare Pairs Week 2025 14 July: Beach Day.
Zelgadis has always been temperamental and occasionally insensitive, but reasonable and capable of compassion. His behavior in episode 10 of Evolution-R is just... horrible.
Setting aside for a moment that his toddler temper tantrum towards Pokota is petty and selfish and cruel in a way that undermines all of Zel's character growth since Lina first met him...
None of the fighting over the jar containing Rezo's soul actually makes sense even from his perspective - like, if Rezo (who was always a horrible person) just needs a vessel body to do the things they want, just fuckin??? let him restore Taforashia first and THEN make him tell Zel how to get his body back? What, does Zel think that after Rezo restores Taforashia he's going to die or dissolve or they're going to have to murder him? Zelgadis is NOT this pitifully irrational. Why is this fight even a fight? Why hasn't Lina punched Zel in the dick and pointed this out to him? Why isn't Amelia, who values justice and kindness over anything else, reaching out to him and telling him he's literally better than this? Even Gourry has called Zel out on his jerk moments in the past.
With how awful he acts through this episode, I can't even feel sorry for Zelgadis when Rezo tells him there's no way to restore his body, and that should have been a really sad reveal after all these years.
It would have been infinitely more interesting and consistent with Zelgadis' real characterization for him to show even a little empathy for what Pokota has just learned from Rezo. Sheesh.
