Ponyta line shiny review please!
Ponyta: Ponyta's shiny is pretty great. Red to blue always looks good on fire-types, and it's inherently a super striking and noticeable change. On top of that, they also changed the inside of the ear and hooves to both be dark blue—an improvement over the original, which had the inside of the ear red but the hooves a light gray—and desaturated the body a little bit to better fit the non-warm accents. Nice.
Rapidash: Shiny Rapidash really only needed to do the same thing as Ponyta's shiny, and it half succeeds by using the same dark blue for the hooves, eyes, and ears. However, for some reason it uses purple for the flames instead of blue. Not only does the purple often appear desaturated and gray-ish, but it also is completely inconsistent with the rest of the line for no reason. Don't get me wrong, the purple is fine, but between the two blue is the better option, and the shinies not matching like the standard versions feels jarring.
Galarian Ponyta: G. Ponyta just swaps out the original pink for an eggshell white. I like this—it invokes classic white unicorn mythology and makes the black areas of the design pop even more. However, while it's definitely noticeable as a shiny, it does feel like a missed opportunity to do something with the cyan parts of the body.
Make them pink so the colors invert, make them white to really lean into the unicorn look, make them a purer blue to reference regular shiny Ponta, etc. It's fine as is, but could've been pushed just a bit more.
Galarian Rapidash: Thankfully, unlike Kantonian Rapidash, G. Rapidash is consistant with G. Ponyta. My same notes on the secondary color apply, but otherwise, this is a nice-looking shiny.
Overall: Some pretty solid shinies as a whole. Kantonian Rapidash is the technically the worst just on the grounds of often being washed-out and inconsistent, but even it still looks good.
