“A Polaroid a day since 9/12/2011. This is San Francisco seen through the lenses of vintage Polaroid cameras” reads the description of Polaroid SF (Bruce and Billy)’s Tumblr page. Described as an “analog love letter to San Francisco,” the project shows everyday life of the people, places and things of the Bay Area.
The project started with the photo-a-day idea, then Polaroids were incorporated due how thought provoking film, specifically polaroid photography made the photographers as opposed to digital photography. It was a good way for them to push themselves, set themselves apart and channel their love for Polaroid photography.
Seeking to truly capture the San Francisco lifestyle, they have searched every nook and cranny of the city, discovering things they may have never discovered without the project. Meeting new kinds of people (bands, chefs, artists and business owners) has been one of their favorite things about Polaroid SF. Career-wise, what started as a project turned into an event photography business - more than either of them could have ever imagined.
Much like many cities, San Francisco has a community art project, theirs being hearts. The art display was started in 2004 by the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. Deciding to grab the community’s help for the PolaroidSF heart, Bruce and Billy received over 1000 Polaroids to use for the construction of the heart. It can be seen on the corner of Post and Stockton until October 23rd.
Using Tumblr was an obvious choice for the duo because of the perfect picture display format and the artist promoting community and atmosphere. In fact, Tumblr features Polaroid SF in their Photography Spotlight. While using Tumblr, the team uses our Mallow theme which they love for its’ customizability, large header space, prominent photo feature and social media integration.
Their Tumblr can be found at http://polaroidsf.com/
The Mallow theme can be purchased at https://www.tumblr.com/theme/35980
P.S. If you're curious which of the two takes the pictures, it varies by whoever captured the best shot that day.
