Es ist die größte Arktis-Expedition aller Zeiten: Im September 2019 macht sich der deutsche Eisbrecher "Polarstern" auf den Weg zum Nordpol.

Polarstern

2019 őszén a MOSAiC expedíció keretében a Polarstern jégtörő kihajózott, hogy befagyassza magát és egy éven át sodródjon az Északi-sarki jégtáblákkal. 400 tudós vesz részt az expedícióban különböző tudományterületekről. 100 fős turnusokban váltják egymást a hajón és végeznek méréseket (oceanográfia, ökológia, tenger-biológia, légköri tudományok stb. témában).

Ez azért újszerű és hiánypótló, mert egyészt interdiszciplináris kutatást tesz lehetővé, ami egy olyan komplexitású témakörben, mint a klímakutatás nagyon fontos, másrészt így lehetőség nyílik téli és parttól távoli adatok begyűjtésére. Ami amúgy alig van, vagy nem létezik, mert a sötétben és hidegben nem szokás kutatómunkát szervezni a sarkkörre, szárazföldön sem.

The Polarstern is a very big ship to explore the poles, I think it might be the biggest research ship in germany. It makes a tour in the antarctic sea in (our) autumn and one in the arctic in (our) spring. It’s an old vessel, they are already building a new one, Polarstern two, but that will take some more years. Anyway, we were allowed to get on board and see where the scientists live and eat and research there for three month and it was very interesting and informative. I think it might be really cool to be allowed to research there one day :)
