Grand Trunk Cold Storage & Warehouse

C’est au hasard de notre exploration dans Poletown que nous découvrons ce grand bâtiment montrant tous les signes d’un abandon.

Le quartier est plutôt isolé, alors nous nous parquons juste au pied de l’endroit, et filons directement à l’intérieur, sans rencontrer d’entrave.

Mais au premier étage nous entendons des voix : c’est un peu la panique et nous allons jusqu’au toit sans traîner. Voilà pourquoi Paul est un peu essoufflé quand il parle à la caméra. D’ailleurs il n’est pas très inspiré non plus : on ne dira pas qu’il a raté une vocation de journaliste !

Finalement, la seule présence que nous rencontrons est un chat...

The history of the plant that I just reblogged a photo of is actually kind of sad in some ways.

The area was acquired via eminent domain, and saw the destruction of several neighborhoods in what remained of Poletown in its construction. Twelve people were arrested in a sit-in at Immaculate Conception Church, which was later razed in the construction of the plant in 1981. The area was once home to more than 4000 residents in over 1000 homes.

According to Wikipedia, there is also a small Jewish cemetery called Beth Olem on the plant's grounds, and GM allows visitors to come to the cemetery only twice a year--the Sundays before Rosh Hashana and Passover.
