Police Surgeon 1x12 "The Healer"

★★★★★★☆☆☆☆

Eric Clavering. New medicine clashes with old medicine in this pedestrian story about a tribal healer out of his depth when his granddaughter’s pregnancy goes awry. Main guest actor very good. Other guest actors quite poor. Simon gets bitten by a snake in this one, and hallucinates some scenes from the very first episode. 6/10

Police Surgeon 1x11 "Two Points of a Pitchfork (Part II)"

★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

Diana LeBlanc. Conclusion of the typhoid outbreak story, but this is very different to part 1. The focus here is almost exclusively on Dan (Len Birman) and his mysterious new girlfriend. Dan is a great character when he’s working with (and/or battling) Simon. Here, we get none of that and the love story he’s in isn’t particularly interesting. Ruth just isn’t a likeable character. And it’s no surprise to learn that she’s the carrier they’ve been looking for. 5/10

Police Surgeon 1x08 "Where Are the Lucky Stars?"

★★★★★★★★☆☆

Art Hindle. Written by Fred Freiberger. Another crime story. Young woman is assaulted; badly beaten. Script gives us 3 suspects and keeps us guessing until the halfway mark. Ends with a chase through the wilderness–with the helicopter–and Simon in a fistfight. Equal screen time for Simon, Dan and Andrew in this one. Very entertaining episode. 8/10
