I’m not at all ashamed for laughing at this.
Let’s talk about the line “until he knows the real you, he can not possibly love you”
There’s a lot to unpack in that line because to a certain extent Eloise is talking about herself and not just Colin.
Colin does know the real Penelope. He’s the only one who truly does, maybe her lady’s mad Rae can be added to that list, but it’s really only Colin who does.
Eloise never truly knew Pen, despite their closeness and friendship prior to the LW reveal. Eloise didn’t really listen to Pen when she said she did want marriage. Eloise is and was a good friend and person, she just is a tunnel-vision focused person.
Colin, while not knowing Pen is Whistledown, does in fact know her, all of her to be more precise. That’s where the love comes from. For Eloise to not see that is pretty telling.
Eloise is somewhat shocked by realizing Pen has had feelings for her brother for a long time. This is also interesting. If Eloise had truly been paying attention she would have noticed from the jump. But again, Eloise has always been focused elsewhere. Also she’s angry because she might now believe that Pen used Eloise to get to Colin. But that again leads to Eloise having tunnel vision and not truly knowing Pen.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Eloise and I love her arc, I just need her to chill out for a movement.
In e8, when Pen announces that she’s Lady Whistledown the lighting causes her dress to shift from green to blue.
So the trailer.
No one has seemed to catch it yet, but when Colin says “What good am I to you?” His accent goes lowbrow at the end. His anger and pain knocks the Ton right out of his voice.
I want to do a dissection of the trailer but others on here have done a much better job than I could.
“One day Whistledown will be caught and we shall dance on the day of her demise”
Somewhere between leaving the ball and catching up with Pen’s carriage, Colin lost his cravat.
Overwhelming passion in Bridgerton.
“Isn't physical attraction one of the ungovernable forces? You know, like gravity - that's what we like about it. Downhill, release the brakes, loosen your grip and then - whoosh!”
What is overwhelming passion? It’s when the MC (main characters) can not function because of their all-consuming need for their person.
We see this on s1 and s2 too for sure, but it’s on full display on s3. Colin’s obsessive searching for Pen in crowded ballrooms and across meadows afterward balloon attacks shoot him to the top of the overwhelming desire list. The tender kisses yes, but the feral touches and kisses he claims from her are the epitome of overwhelming desire.
The scene in the alley, albeit a bit too short in my opinion, is a prime example. Despite his anger at Pen’s betrayal a simple declaration of love from her makes him a beast. I love a good backward walk against a wall scene in romance and we get two in s3. One Colin’s dream…also a moment of overwhelming desire, and the other is the alley.
One can even say their first time scene is the culmination of their overwhelming desire for each other. It’s tender and sweet but also raw and passionate. The perfect blending to achieve just the right feel. I’ve seen many people comment that they feel like a voyeur in the moment, like they shouldn’t be watching as they are intruding. That’s the best kind of love scene. The one that feels real.
