Odysseus naming his second son/grandson “sacker of cities” as a reminder for sacking Troy in contrast to his first son “far from battle” is a great difference, but the man has no spoils to show for winning the war, not even the men who fought alongside him are there to talk about it.

I desperately need more fics and headcanons about Poliporthes - specifically the potential with big brother Telemachus.

Like, just the idea of OdyPen having a second kid is so dear to me, but also just the angst potential of it.

We have Telemachus whose father hasn't been in his life for 20 years, and Penelope, (though she tried her hardest), was likely emotionally unavailable at times as well.

So imagine his reaction when he finds out his mother is pregnant, but this time, this child will have both parents. A mother who laughs and smiles, a present father. Telemachus didn't have that - he had to become the man of the house when he was most likely still a teenager (15-16 seems to be the most appropriate time for the suitors to start arriving).

Like, obviously I think he'd grow to be a very good older brother and adore Poliporthes eventually, but for the first year after his birth (especially before him and Penelope mend their relationship a bit) it just sort of...stings? Because why does this kid get to have BOTH parents and not have to pray and hope for his father everyday? What do you mean that this child will never have to worry for his mother - never worry about the possibility of her taking a blade to her wrists, or drowning herself like Anticlea did?

I think with time, however, and a long talk with his parents, Telemachus would accept and be happy that his baby brother doesn't have to go through what he did. I also think Odysseus is a pretty dedicated father once he returns, so Telemachus isn't super jealous about that - it's more so that Poliporthes gets the safe, loving childhood that Telemachus missed out on. I could also go more into Telemachus and Penelope, but that'd make this post even longer than it already is, so I'll save that for a future post.

But, yeah, I'd love to see a 21 year old Telemachus trying to figure out where he fits in in this new family dynamic as well as another little baby boy for OdyPen (though Telemachus will always be their most precious baby<3)

(I know that in some versions Poliporthes is Odysseus and Penelope's second son, but I like this better because they get to be grandparents.)
