Homeric Parallels
Odyssey 1:
[Telemachus to Penelope]
'Nay, go to thy chamber, and busy thyself with thine own tasks, the loom and the distaff, and bid thy handmaids ply their tasks; but speech shall be for men, for all, but most of all for me; since mine is the authority in the house.” She then, seized with wonder, went back to her chamber, for she laid to heart the wise saying of her son. Up to her upper chamber she went with her handmaids, and then bewailed Odysseus, her dear husband until flashing-eyed Athena cast sweet sleep upon her eyelids.'

Iliad 6:
[Hector to Andromache]
'"But go to the the house and attend to your works, the loom and the distaff, and order the house-servants to do their work: war will be of concern to all men of Troy, most of all to me." [...] So she came to the well founded hall of Hector, the man-slaying, and within found many house-servants, and she stirred up within them a wailing. So in his own house while he was still alive they mourned Hector, for they no longer believed he would return from war, having escaped the wrath and hands of the Acheans.'
Translation by me
Noticed this while rereading the Odyssey, although I would've missed it if I hadn't studied that bit of Iliad in depth- it's always fun to spot fragments of the oral tradition, poets just saying the same shit to make it easier for themselves!
I do not think that Hermione would help Andromache kill Neo (like how Clytemnestra and Cassandra teaming up wouldn’t make sense) BUT if Andromache kills Neo and escapes with Helenus, then Hermione finds out about this, I can imagine her being like “damn that’s crazy… where’s Orestes I wanna run away with him too”.
penelopeeee🫧🫧
man, it's so cool when female characters over-indulge and self-destruct and hurt themselves and others on purpose and have no way out but make it worse anyway and bite and scratch and betray everything they stand for for nothing and have no one to blame but themselves.
what character(s) do you associate with the person you reblogged this from?

Shiv Roy and Cersei Lannister parallels run deep
Succession has many great lines but one of the most unforgettable is this devastating line that Logan say to Shiv, which says so much about her character and relationship with him:
She is pained by the fact that her own father said this to her as well as the fact that there is truth to what he said.
For example, throughout the show we see that she enjoys having power over Tom and knows that he wouldn’t leave her as long as it stayed that way.
Like her brothers, she is desperate for her father’s approval but she is never seen as good enough due to her being a woman; she runs to politics and tries to become and to prove her own person, but Shiv is also desperate to prove that she is good enough for her father’s company and abandons politics and all her beliefs the moment he tells her he wants her to be the next CEO.
