My parents are government workers and my mom is considered non-essential. So she’s probably not going to get the furlough. We’re just lucky that we’re well off and it won’t hurt us financially. But a day of lost wages would be horrible for people that won’t get compensated for today.

Yeah…fingers crossed they’ll pass an act for retroactive back pay (two Democratic senators introduced a bill for it this weekend, but it wasn’t allowed to go to the floor…hmph). Since it was only a single day, it won’t kill me, but it’d still be nice not to lose wages over something I, a mere “non-essential, non-excepted” employee, had no control over :-/

Now (if we pretend like it’s a given that obviously the House will pass this temporary spending bill) it’s a question of waiting for February 8 to see the showdown and possibly another, maybe even longer shutdown. Yayy for dysfunctional political systems…
