Anyway it’s not at all shocking to see Emily Oster on her ableist disease-denial crusade AGAIN, but it’s still a fucking bummer. But on a lighter note it is darkly funny to see these two posts back-to-back.

Also a reminder that while bleach, chlorine, and regular old washing your produce won’t kill cyclospora, cooking things to 160’ F will! Yes, salads are nice in the summer, but not shitting your brains out for weeks is even nicer! Also you can minimize risk even with lettuce by buying whole heads (no bagged mixes), discarding the outer layers, and even better by blanching or grilling them which will let you keep some crunch in different ways!

The KIDS act (which contains KOSA) passed the US house, so I would recommend calling your senators and telling them to vote in opposition. I don't think I need to stress the importance of being able to use the internet freely and without privacy barriers being breached.

There are many scripts online you can follow, many ways to tweak your message to fit your senator (ESPECIALLY if they are up for reelection this year). Whether it's a recording you reach or a real person, be straightforward, don't argue, just let your rep know that you are a constituent and you oppose the KIDS act, etc.

Here is where you can search for your senator... call, email, fax, bring them physical letters, show up in person to their offices if you are able.

There’s a fandom that often writes its main ship as super kinky (sometimes in ways that read as ooc and purely for the sake of being edgier than thou), and just *one* of those kinks—notably, not even one of the violent ones—they always make such a huge effort to disclaim as “not my kink!!!!” “Totally would never be into this myself!!” etc etc

And it’s like….baby, no one is holding you at gunpoint and making you write this kink that is not even in canon! (Also, if we wanna get a little mean about it, this is why those fics are never hot lmao - too much denial, never enough thought about what about it could be a turn on!!)

#reblogging to get chainofclovers more responses!#in my experience I witness more at least internalized misogyny homonormativity and the like in modern fandoms #but also I suspect it’s due in part to the fact that most historical fiction media I watch has a small limited fandom #vs seeing how otp culture DOMINATES big fandoms in ways that lend themselves well to the deployment of misogyny and slut shaming #interestingly while I do see it sometimes in response to canon I more so see it being mediated in fic #where a character who has had any kind of sexual contact with half of an otp is often villainized in such ooc ways #their sexual transgression is less that of violating perceived historical mores than it is infringing upon the sanctity of a desired ship

The worst thing about living in university-owned housing is that the dude I hear having very loud, very short-lasting sex is not just some dude. He is my colleague who I see at faculty senate meetings every month. And that….that is the worst thing in the whole world.
