“Wow, isn’t the Power of Fanfiction beautiful? The characters might be heartbroken and miserable and Doomed By the Narrative, but Fanfiction offers us this multiverse of endless possibilities and variations where you can imagine they lived Happily Ever After!” I mean, the thing is that I do generally agree with this statement, but when in order to make this point, you take characters who accumulated such a fervent fandom and fanfiction community because their story had a Happy Ending for over 30 years and then add in unnecessarily drama and misery and you smash the story’s narrative and themes and tonal consistency to pieces just to force these characters to die tragically and destroy the entire original universe while you're at it, suddenly this whole “But… Now everyone can imagine all of these stories where they are happy!!” thing feels pretty sour to me.

On the one hand, it kind of feels like every mildly offbeat date idea being stereotyped as a lesbian thing functions mostly as an excuse for straight dudes not to step up their game.

On the other hand, I've genuinely seen more lesbian couples in observation rooms at aquariums than in literally any other venue, so

The responses to this post are funny to me because on the one hand, I made a genuine mistake and have been deservedly called out on it. Tails's real name is Miles Prower so he too has a surname.

On the other hand, some people seem to be of the opinion that the Robotnik family (Eggman, Maria, Gerald) are non-human characters.

Granted, Eggman is an industrialist, so maybe they have a point.

It’s so crazy that someone you love dying just turns into one humiliation ritual after another. Constantly explaining to people that they died. Filling out endless paperwork for years after. Phone call after phone call to organize what to do with the body and funeral arrangements. God forbid they died suddenly or didn’t have an ironclad will or it turns into even more of a bureaucratic nightmare. On top of it all, everything associated with dying is the most expensive things on planet earth. And through it all, if the grief doesn’t feel constantly suffocating, it creeps up on you at the worst moments until you’re pulled over on the side of the road, crying. And you’re expected to be back to normal a week later.

if you want to experience life more deeply you have to find more beauty. stop training yourself to dismiss, to mock, to assume the worst all the time — when you do this you build walls between yourself and the world. and after a while you stop feeling the warmth of it entirely.

beauty requires openness. it asks you to let things reach you, to soften enough to be moved. it’s not naive to see beauty everywhere—it’s a skill, a form of intelligence, a kind of quiet bravery. because it is so much easier to critique than to create, to detach than to engage, to dismiss than to love.

let yourself be affected. let yourself find things beautiful and let that be enough. life is not asking you to be cool, sitting on the sidelines and nitpicking everything. it’s asking you to see life and experience it fully.

I always feel so conflicted about this kinda post bc like. There definitely is a cultural problem with people devaluing and ignoring English classes. But also, my high school English classes consistently failed? To actually teach much of substance?

Like I definitely don't think that every school has the problem to the same extent mine did but just. You can't deny that while there are institutions that are meant to be teaching these things, a lot of them are doing a really bad job of it.
