GO3’s constant cheap cannibalism of the original story and its motifs mostly just pisses me off, but I do have to admit that it’s just kinda morbidly hilarious how the shift from how Aziracrow’s Happily Ever After was symbolized by a nightingale singing in Barkley Square, a thing that’s the centerpiece of a famous romantic song specifically because it’ll be a rare and whimsical thing to happen, for a songbird to sing at the middle of London, and no one actually noticed it was happening over the bustle of mundanity all around it, but that little magical moment still happened and it mattered… to the Fellony Ending just being these two explicitly talking about how they maybe heard a nightingale singing at the garden of their rural cottage, a much more Normal and unremarkable place for a nightingale to be singing at, but maybe they didn’t lol, that this is like the perfect symbolism for what a massive downgrade on every level this ending is.

I mean, the funny thing is that as soon as the Deltarune Fandom saw Gerson in Chapter 4 acting as a kinda Trickstery sort of Mentor to Susie and how he pushed her character arc forwards, folks started to speculate about Chapter 5 having a similar sort of situation with Ralsei. And at the time I was just like, yeah , I would love for Ralsei to have a ‘Focus Chapter’ the way Chapter 4 was clearly for Susie, buuut I think people are taking the idea of Gerson-but-for-Ralsei a bit too literally?

Like, Gerson was such an effective teacher for Susie because his unusual teaching methods managed to home in on the ways that she can best learn, and that was very important for her specifically as a person clearly failed by the education system and in general the ways he played the Trickster Mentor trope was tailor-made for Susie’s character (and there’s also the aspect of Gerson literally being a teacher by trade, and not unlikely the literal teacher of the person who made that Fountain as well). Ralsei is a different person going through a different arc, so just reiterating on Gerson with a different Darkner who probably wouldn't have Gerson's specific background and just switching around some lines just won’t be as effective for that arc.

And from all the ways I was considering for how they’ll pull it off, I was absolutely not considering the possibility that Ralsei’s Gerson-Equivalent is going to try for a lot of the same Trickster Mentor shtick but it’s just going to…. Fucking suck for Ralsei. Flowery is trying and it’s hard to say that he wasn’t effective at all, Ralsei character did seriously evolve this Chapter, but Flowery is just not as good at this Trickstery Methods of Teaching lessons as Gerson was and then also Ralsei is also just a lot less receptive than Susie was.

So for the most part what Ralsei gets out of the whole experience is feeling frustrated and humiliated and annoyed. The point of the Flowery-Gerson parallels from a Meta Perspective is almost like ‘Susie and Ralsei are different people with different needs for their character development and also being an effective teacher is hard and Flowery’s usual Fake-Till-You-Make-It attitude isn’t really gonna cut it there’.

hi sorry i just realized something and now I am speculating about whether Crowley keeps houseplants and yells at them as a reframing device/coping mechanism to deal with the repressed trauma of Falling (read: being cast out of the Garden?)

like here he is, being INTENSE PERFECTIONIST AND CONTROL FREAK (in a way that he isn’t, in the rest of his life) and the second one of his plants shows a flaw, even a single leaf spot, he puts it down the garbage disposal, discarding it the way he felt he was discarded????
