mARTch 2025 day 6: Plant
Partially sketched standing in a backstreet while on my lunch break and finished off with the reference photos I snapped later.
The majority of the trees in my area of the city are pollarded so they don't slap the buildings or the buses with their branches. In the winter they look like brutal and miserable stumps, but as soon as the spindly new branches start sprouting in their dozens off the end of the stumps I know spring has sprung. Give it another month and this tree will look like a neat and happy puff of green leaves.
This challenge is already reminding me of how different it feels drawing something in front of my nose versus drawing from a photo - I don't need to stand far away to get everything in frame in real life as I just move my head. Is that obvious? Perhaps, but it's so easy to forget after a winter indoors.
