My Smooth Sumac is flowering, and I finally took a good sniff of the flowers, and wow I understand why all the pollinators are absolutely crazy about it.

it's one of the best flower scents I've ever smelled-- rich and warmly sweet, reminds me of vanilla, with some other notes that seem really familiar somehow but I can't place them. It reminds me of something luxurious.

I've never wanted to eat a flower before just based on how it smelled. I want to drink the nectar myself but I am too large

Anyone who knows some good lesser known US east coast native plants I can put in my garden next spring tell me about them pleeeaaase :3 doesn't have to be only flowering plants either, anything that will bring in lots of segmented friends

Do you hate monoculture lawns? Like reeeeeally hate them? :)

You might be interested to know that many types of clover, especially WHITE clover, are

Perennial (come back every year)

Flowering :) (bees love them)

Nitrogen-fixers (ATMOSPHERIC nitrogen, no less, very hardy and decomposing roots will enhance the soil)

Comically cheap at most hardware stores, and

Borderline impossible to remove from a grass lawn :) :) :)

Because they're so short! And they grow so fast. Even the flowers are often short enough to avoid being mowed. And they're very hardy and good at self-propagating.

Why, if someone were to get a giant bag of seed at the hardware store for like $8, and then just walk around lightly scattering little handfuls of seed in like, an apartment lawn, it would just like, be everywhere! :) little flowers and happy bees everywhere, soil improvement, biodiversity, and no way to get rid of them without individually picking them :)

Two of my favorite plants for this time of year for the northern hemisphere. Goldenrod, the yellow one and the other plant that is orange and yellow is called Lantana. Both of them are tremendous pollinator plants that support butterflies, bees and birds. Goldenrod supports birds with its seeds in the winter and Lantana supports hummingbirds with its nectar June through November.
