A Rollercoaster Ride (of Emotions) - OT7
Summary:- As it turns out, a little will and a lot of love were all it took for (Y/N)'s bad day to become monumentally better.
[Alternatively: The maknae line is very excited, the others just want to sleep, and there is an amusement park involved. Needless to say, chaos ensues.]

The world, which was usually painted in bright hues as it zoomed past her car, just seemed dull to (Y/N) that particular day.
It was one of those days where nothing especially bad happens, but you still feel a deep sigh build and build in your chest until-
… you realize you’re so wound up about nothing and that the weight on your chest is all thanks to you.
And so, in a similar fashion, when (Y/N) opened the door to her home after work on Friday and finally let out the metaphoric breath she’d been holding in, it seemingly took all of her energy and motivation with it as well.
Rubbing her eyes tiredly with her hand, she slowly made her way to the bedroom, the thought of sweet sleep her only comfort at the end of a long day. The sight that greeted her when she arrived there, however, quickly became essential in providing her said comfort as well.
On the bed, as cozy and wrapped up in one another as could be despite the vast expanse of free space on the bed, lay Namjoon and Seokjin. Seeing her boyfriends sleeping so peacefully curled into one another made (Y/N), more than ever, want to sleep off the air of fatigue surrounding her.
So that’s exactly what she did.
She fell into bed beside Namjoon with a soft thump, her heart swelling with affection when both he and Jin sleepily shifted to accommodate her as well.
She didn’t quite understand how she ended up between them when they were hardly awake, but with the way they were cocooning her into the shell of warmth they had created, she wasn’t complaining one bit.
Choosing not to rupture the serene atmosphere, (Y/N) greeted Namjoon and Jin wordlessly with small kisses each to their foreheads and noses. Even in the sleepy state they were in, the micro touches made them smile involuntarily.
After all, for (Y/N) and her boys, the forehead and nose kisses were such a hallmark for expressing ultimate affection that it was reasonable to consider the possibility of the action being engraved into each of their subconscious minds like the lyrics of an old love song.
And … of course it was in the middle of such poetic musings that someone’s hand hit (Y/N) in the face. Too tired to even be amused or angry at that point, she just folded Namjoon’s hand politely back into place.
(Politely, unlike the man in question who was apparently running for president of Destruction Town even while he was asleep.)
It was now that (Y/N) could finally close her eyes, take a deep breath, and allow herself to be lulled to sweet sleep by the sound of her lovers’ even breathing.
*-*-*-*
Before long, however, every ounce of peace and quiet in the room was blown to bits and replaced by the sound of frantic arguing and dramatic screams of disagreement. Preceded by the absolute racket were the sources of said noise: Hoseok and the maknae line.
They barged into the room, too occupied with their heated discussion to be considerate whatsoever to the three sleeping figures in the room (who simply put their pillows over their heads and tried their best to drown out the sound).
“But everyone promised we would go to the park together, you can’t back out now!” Jimin almost whined as he said, his lips pursed into his infamous pout.
“Yeah, and Jin hyung even said we would all go to the new rollercoaster first.” Jungkook folded his arms decidedly after stating; he wasn’t going to let his Hobi hyung’s fears ruin his chance to go on the best rides in the park.
“Why do you insist on going to the stupidest, scariest ride in that park anyways?” Hoseok really couldn’t have been more aggravated at the others’ resolve.
“Because it’s fun! And because our schedule is so packed we’re not gonna be able to go to the park again for a long time. Come on, Hobi hyung … we won’t let go of your hands the whole time!” Taehyung’s wide eyes displayed his sincerity clearly, but the hesitation was still clear as day on Hoseok’s face.
“All I’m saying is this: this is gonna be our first date together in months. It should be fun and romantic, not scary!” Hoseok said, his mouth turning into the signature triangle, and the younger boys softened a little. He wasn’t wrong; recently, with the boys busy preparing for a comeback and (Y/N) working overtime at her job, none of them had really got the time to go out.
Sharing a look, Jungkook, Taehyung and Jimin almost gave in and decided not to go on the ‘death trap’ rollercoaster after all, but before they had the chance to say anything, Hoseok continued with his little spiel.
“Honestly, I don’t even think we should go to the park. Amusement parks are so crowded and loud, and we’d get recognized anyway. Plus, I’ve heard really good things about the floating restaurant in the lake right next to the park that we can rent out for ourselves-” And … with that, the maknae line was back to aggressively opposing everything that came out of Hoseok’s mouth.
‘You wanna eat so bad, go and eat the leftovers from yesterday like you always tell us to! We’re gonna go to the park like we planned, and the first thing we’ll do is ride the rollercoaster.’ Jimin ended with a sassy huff, making Hoseok scoff at the disrespect (jokingly, of course … mostly.).
Needless to say, amongst this entire commotion, the poor souls previously sleeping were now wide awake and more than a little mad to be forced awake so carelessly.
“Yah! If another word comes out of any of your mouths, I’ll be forced to get up from this bed and that won’t be good for anyone, so help me God!” Jin growled out at the four unwelcome boys in question before plopping his head down and putting his pillow over it.
Namjoon was miraculously (no, really though, the maknaes and Hoseok weren’t the quietest bunch whatsoever) still asleep, but (Y/N) snuggled under Jin’s arm following his angry complain; she, too, hoped to avoid any further disruption by the younger ones.
For a while after four sets of footsteps trailed away from the room, neither of the two heard any more grating arguments and almost believed they would be allowed rest. Almost. Because after a mere ten minutes or so of renewed peace, a party even bigger than before was entering the room.
“What now?” (Y/N) dragged out the question as she blinked sleepily around her where the room had already descended into chaos; Jimin and Jungkook were involved in what seemed like important discourse, Taehyung and Hoseok were still (!) arguing, and the new addition- one sleep-deprived, clearly was-just-working-obsessively-on-a-new-musical-masterpiece Min Yoongi, was grumbling under his breath while simultaneously pouting. Oh, and Kim Namjoon had finally opened his eyes. Only to fall back into Seokjin’s shoulder, granted, but it was progress.
“Okay … boys! Stop!” She didn’t need to raise her voice to get all conversations to halt and for the boys to look towards her, their expressions ranging from sheepish to downright screaming ‘save me’ (yes, that last one was Hoseok only; he was desperate).
“Usually I would say I’m too tired for this shit, but since we’re here already: Jimin, baby, would you please explain to us who don’t know what this is about?” Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, (Y/N) passed Jimin an affectionate smile when he perked up at her request and started to comply.
“Well, I can see that a whopping four of you-” A pointed glare was sent the way of the eldest three and (Y/N) herself.
“-have forgotten, but we all promised each other over dinner last time that the next free three hour window we can find in our stupid schedules will be date night. Obviously …”
“Today was supposed to be date night,” The previously out-of-commission leader smacked his head in a reproaching manner as he realized.
“Yeah, and since everyone seems to have forgotten a conversation that happened a mere fortnight ago, I’ll remind you all: you agreed to go that new amusement park that opened up.” The maknae’s backhanded reminder was unwelcome and lead to a few groans being let out; the amusement park discussion had been a painstakingly long one, and those who hadn’t emerged victorious still weren’t over it.
“You don’t have to feel too bad though … sure, you guys forgot about the date night that we’ve been looking forward to for weeks and made us feel both ignored and less important than your work, but at least you’re gonna make up for it!” Clearly, Taehyung’s melodramatic ass could never let go of a chance to be extra.
“Ugh, fine. I’ll take the bait! How are we making up for it?” Yoongi asked, pursing his lips distastefully despite the big grins that bloomed on the faces of the ‘others’. (As of that moment, Yoongi had decided to associate himself with only Seokjin, Namjoon, and (Y/N) since they were the only three on his side just then.)
“Since we were let off of late night dance practice today and the park is practically open all night-”
“No!”
“Yes!”
*-*-*-*
“It’s been half an hour since I was rudely awaken from precious sleep, my boss now thinks that my ankle has broken for the second time this month, and Jin still can’t decide between neon pink joggers or a gem-studded fanny pack.” (Y/N) let out an affectionate sigh as she stated, looking at her boys around her.
“Okay, this is getting ridiculous. If everybody in this house isn’t in the car in five minutes, I will leave whoever doesn’t make it!” (Y/N)’s warning was followed by a satisfied smirk; it was sort of gratifying to see everyone scurry and fasten their paces upon hearing her little threat even though her tone was laced in amusement.
Power is a most potent drug indeed.
And so, after countless trials and tribulations and going back to the house five fucking times because someone had left something (no, it wasn’t Namjoon four out of five times; what are you insinuating exactly?), the party of eight finally set off for their destination.
“Hey, I just wanted to say: I know I get pretty grumpy when I’m tired, but I’m really excited for today. It’s been too long since we’ve went out like this.” Jin, Yoongi, and (Y/N) let out little sounds of agreement at Namjoon’s apologetic words; all of them seemingly related to the sentiment.
As the ones ‘at fault’ were assured by the others that they needn’t be apologetic, Jungkook leaned up to press a small kiss to Namjoon’s cheek and got comfortable on his hyung’s shoulder. The maknae wasn’t really good with words, but he could portray his feelings just fine through his actions. The leader, in turn, sighed contentedly as he wrapped his arm around the boy and enjoyed the cool air nipping at his face.
Not long after though, everyone started to get a little restless; they normally took use of a much more spacious car for longer drives but they hadn’t anticipated this one to take quite as long and had foolishly piled into a smaller vehicle.
As such, there were constant quips and comments of “can you please get off my hand?” and “why does your butt take up so much space?” and even the occasional “if you don’t stop squirming right now, I swear to the Lord-”. It was certainly an eventful journey.
… And most of them were about sick of it, when a beam of hope was finally seen.
“Good news, loves! I think I’ve finally figured out why we haven’t reached the park yet. Bad news, though, it’s because this one here can’t navigate for shit and really shouldn’t have insisted on driving because we’ve been driving away from the park instead of to it.” (Y/N) called out teasingly from the passenger seat as she motioned to their driver for the day: none other than the self-proclaimed Genius Min Suga.
Grumbles and frustrated growls erupted from all over the backseats, a smug “I told you so” kind of expression taking over a few faces (namely (Y/N) and Jungkook who had vehemently protested against Yoongi driving).
“Well, I would’ve been fine if the damn place showed up on GPS. What kinda off the maps horror of a park are we going to, anyways?” Though he tried to defend himself, the man had already lost all honor in the eyes of the others and was shunned to the passenger seat to sulk in solitude, his full pout prominent on his face.
Everyone thought he was fucking adorable.
By the time that (Y/N) took over the resident dumpling’s driver seat, they had began to get so close to their long awaited destination that even the most non enthusiastic ones were excited to just let loose and have fun together.
Seemingly even before she could park the car, the boys were already spilling out (a little too literally to be comfortable; it was a hell of a squeeze in the car) and jogging towards the entrance of the park.
Yoongi and (Y/N) followed, hands clasped together tightly as they walked. Their movements slowly synced up with each other’s soon enough like they like they always did; like they were parts of one whole coming together. The two were just coming up to the park’s flashy entrance when a chorus of frustrated screams reached them.
(Y/N) ran forward to check up on the boys, Yoongi not far behind, and they were about to burst into a series of panicked questions when the answers to all of them came into their line of sight: a bold ‘CLOSED’ sign hung up like a banner, daring anyone to cross it.
The park was fucking closed. Of course it’d be closed.
The newfound information took all of them by surprise, their excitement levels that were precariously high just a few seconds prior becoming unbearably low. However, no one was more distraught than Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook who suddenly exchanged their sunny, golden retriever personas for those of droopy-eared, sad pups.
It was like the maknae line had realized finally that destiny was a cruel master and the world was a dark, dark place. That the sisters of fate, with their ugly haggardly hands and stupid fucking scissors, were out to cut their string of fate and everything they held dear.
It was a downright tragedy.
“I knew coming to this no-show-on-GPS, Franken rollercoaster-housing-park was a bad idea; I told you!” And, there Hoseokie goes adding fuel to the maknaes’ fire- was what went through (Y/N)’s head as soon as the words left the former’s mouth.
Surprisingly enough, none of the younger ones quipped back with a heated reply. Instead, they took to being rational; almost resigned.
“Well, it’s not like the entire universe didn’t try and warn us about this; it was practically shooting signs at our faces saying we shouldn’t have come here and exerted all of our energy over nothing.” It was Taehyung’s dejected sigh, bright puppy-eyed Taehyung, which finally broke through to (Y/N).
Maybe this entire date night was fucked from the start like he said, but damn it she had traded her precious sleep for this and she was owed something by the universe.
That fucking park had no rights or significance after making her babies sad anyways.
“Okay, change of plans. Let’s get back in the car first, yeah?” (Y/N) turned around swiftly on her heel as she said; she was a woman with a purpose now.
“Hyungie, you look cold. Here, I’ll hold your hand!” No matter how slick Namjoon thought he was being with Jin, coming up with the ingenious ‘cold’ excuse, his wide (scared) eyes gave away the truth easier than anything.
“Namjoon-ah … you don’t have to make excuses.” The older of the two let out an involuntary laugh at how cute scared Joonie could be though he was trying to hold it in because he felt bad making fun of the other.
A mumbled “Abandoned parks are creepy,” was all the reply that Jin got however, and it’s not like he could disagree with that statement. It was like this that the pack of eight, featuring the maknaes who were still pouting (and still adorable), settled back in to their claustrophobic nightmare of a vehicle.
By now, (Y/N)’s back hurt like a bitch and the mere thought of food haunted her mind like an unattainable dream; it was only her resolve that kept her driving.
“Jagi, weren’t we supposed to turn around back there to go home?” It was Hoseok who had asked, leaning forward from the way back to do so.
“We’re not going home though,” Her vague reply lead to more confusion than anything, but everyone settled down nonetheless; they’d know where they were going soon enough.
It had hardly been more than a couple minutes when the car slowed down to a halt and the boys tiredly piled out of the car, curious to see where they were.
“We’re … in another park?” Jungkook’s face scrunched up in the cutest of ways as he asked the rhetoric, obviously confused as to whatever was happening.
“Yeah, and why a children’s park again?” Yoongi questioned (Y/N), his tone a clear indication that he wasn’t very amused.
“Okay, hear me out here: it’s really late at night already so we can’t go anywhere else, but we’ve come all this way already so just trust me with this one.” (Y/N)’s answer seemed vague at best, but the boys just shrugged and decided to roll with it; at least they could all get some fresh air. Plus, what makes a good date isn’t really where you are- it’s who you’re with.
Oddly enough, that night, it was Namjoon and Yoongi who were the first ones to give up their seats at the park benches in favor of braving the tumultuous world of children’s swings.
“Namjoon-ah! I bet you can’t fit on that seesaw,” Yoongi’s voice was perfectly controlled as he laid out his trap; lighthearted enough not to raise an eyebrow, but cocky enough to warrant a reaction.
“What? Sure I can. Come here, I’ll show you!” Namjoon didn’t really know what exactly motivated him to do what he did next, but he waved his boyfriend over and made him sit on the other end of the seesaw before squeezing in on the unbelievably tiny seat himself.
Then, when the poor seesaw shot to the sky on Yoongi’s end and he ended up at and awkward height in the air, skinny legs helplessly dangling, Kim Namjoon had the gall to be surprised. It was as if knowledge of the laws of basic physics hadn’t just escaped his mind, but had never been there to begin with.
If any of the maknae line had still been sad about their date night gone wrong, this sight acted as a cure-all in the best of ways: two of their hyungs were on a comically tiny seesaw, struggling hilariously and failing to achieve balance.
Not a single person in the line of sight of the wriggling rappers could hold back their laughter, and Hoseok was glad for it; all was right in the world when his loves were happy.
“I call dibs on spinning the wheel!” Hoseok, resident sunshine himself, exclaimed as he dragged along a giggling Taehyung and Jungkook behind him to go the merry go round. As they got busy spinning round endlessly and making a hell of a racket through it all, (Y/N) gestured Jim amusedly to go and help out Yoongi and Namjoon who were still struggling on the seesaw.
The smaller argued that he couldn’t possibly fight against the tall ass drink that is Kim Namjoon, and the man himself was too scared to get off in case he accidentally flung Yoongi off the seesaw and into the limitless sky. It was getting a little ridiculous.
Needless to say, Jin, instead of helping out the poor souls like instructed to, started to loudly sing seesaw instead. Yoongi didn’t think he had hated himself as much as he did in that moment for writing the fucking song in the first place.
(Y/N) and Jimin, who had hung back for her, were now left behind to talk causally and enjoy the chaotic scene playing out in front of them.
“This is funny,” Jimin giggled out suddenly, as if he was struck by an epiphany.
“I mean, maturity was never one of our strong suits as a group, but this is a surprisingly unprecedented territory of childishness, even for us. We’re having fun, though.” Jimin resumed fondly smiling at the others after speaking, just as (Y/N) looked up from her phone to give him her full attention.
“Well, I’ve ordered the food and it should arrive in a bit so … you coming?” She held out her hand for him to take as she gestured to their boys behind them, a smile on her face.
Unexpectedly enough, the group’s surprising trip to that children’s park would go on to be one of their most treasured nights spent together, the focus of happy reminiscing years after it took place.
Even on that night, as they speedily ate through the copious amounts of food ordered while crowded together on some park benches, it felt like living out one of those mindlessly happy memories you experience in your life that remain etched into your mind for years to come, playing over and over like a reminder.
Yes, their night at the park felt like a reminder of a treasured time and even more treasured people, and it was indeed one that they would find themselves going back to over the years.

[Epilogue/Bonus]
“Yeah, yeah, it was a really fun and memorable date and all, and we always get sappy talking about it, but we still haven’t gone to that damn park and it’s been years.”
“Ooh, you’re right. We haven’t, actually …” A disturbingly meaningful look was traded between the maknaes as Taehyung trailed off in the middle of his sentence.
“You thinking what I’m thinking?” Jungkook raised an eyebrow in question to which the other nodded and devious smiles took over both their faces; they knew exactly what to do.
“Hobi hyung!” The both of them called out in sync, dragging out the syllables into a whine.
“Hobi hyung, listen, do you remember that park with the roller-”
“NO!”
AN:- Just to put it out there: yes, this is what I was doing when I should’ve been writing Moledro lol. ANYWAYS, I personally had a lot of fun writing this oneshot and really enjoyed the fun dynamics b/w the characters. As always, feedback is much appreciated, and I hope you have an amazing day loves!
