Her mistake, MJ realised in retrospect, was proximity. Liz had always been the safer crush because she represented the unattainable.
MJ needs less drama in her life. Her life is not helping. Having crushes on Peter and Liz was not helping. Also, she should have paid more attention to those articles that said that people in close proximity were more likely to fall for each other.
