some outsiders headcanons i thought of when i should have been writing my fic
These are for most of the main characters, along with some twttin characters and my beloved purly, with a smidgen of Polysmoke/marlyboy that isn’t canon to my fics (long post)
Johnny is actually such a hopeless romantic, and I mean that in the way that he’s so delusional when he gets crushes
Johnny also hates the Shepards, mainly because Dally and Ponyboy are close to them and he doesn’t want them to become pretty much part of the Tulsa mafia (I tend to think of the Shepard gang a lot more like a mafia since I read @puermiles03’s Soc!Curtis au)
Ponyboy and Curly have known each other and been friends since they were like eight, but that was broken up a lot from the various times Curly was sent to a reformatory
The Cigarette Chicken Game Incident and Telephone Pole Incident were both Ponyboy and Curly’s ways of trying to to impress the other before they realized they liked each other after being apart for a little while
Curly absolutely adores their matching scars, especially when they get separated for a while, and sometimes when Pony was mad at him would trick him and say he would get fix his scar, but that only worked the first couple times
I have literally never watched a single second of the outsiders show that Scout came from, so I base all my headcanons and characterization off of fanfics lol
she is a MENACE though, in every sense of the word, the very archetype of “character is short and therefore closer to hell while also having less space to store their rage”. She’s basically Martin Freeman (coughsherlockcough WHO SAID THAT)
They identify as female, but uses she/they pronouns (say it with me: pronouns do not equal gender)
Ponyboy is the same but opposite as scout (he/they pronouns and identifies as male)
The two of them met after Scout slept on the Curtis couch for a night (pretty sure that’s how it happened in the show) but bonded more when she (along with Mark, Curly, and later Cherry) helped him when Socs jumped him a couple weeks or so after the Fountain Incident (I’m going to write a short fic about that once I’m done with my current one)
Cherry still absolutely despises Dally, even after his near death experience, but grew a bit more accepting of the Greasers and became better friends with Pony
Everything leading up to Johnny stabbing Bob is the same as described in the book, Johnny only stabbed Bob’s arm and he and Pony got away, went to find Dally and then he took them back to the Curtis house and everything was fine, Cherry broke up with Bob forever and then she and Pony trauma bonded
Soda used to get cavity’s all the time because of his sweets consumption combined with forgetting to brush his teeth
Darry and Two-Bit are both energy drink FIENDS like they are the people that will come close to legitimately overdosing on 5 Hour Energy
Darry however is because he is constantly tired from his jobs and runs on like 3 hours of sleep, twobit is just because he uses it as an alternative to drinking
Stevepop. That’s it that’s the headcanon
Polysmoke/Marlyboy isn’t canon to any of my fits as of now, but I love the concept of Ponyboy stressing because he really likes (insert one of them) but also really likes (insert the other) and Curly and Mark having a rivalry but then gaining a strange bond and then becoming closer and eventually being like “wait, why are we fighting, he has two hands!” And then they talk to Ponyboy and he almost melts from relief
Might make a part two later, for now, these are my headcanons
