new experiments - making my own clayboards. As I use much water in paintings, warping is always a problem, even with the best papers available. So now I coated a polystyrol plate with a mix of acrylic gesso, white marble, chalk and kaolin clay. I used the plastic ground, because in opposite to wood or MDF plate it is not acidic, and warping would be a problem even with wood and MDF. So far, the first tests are promising. The ground is absorbant, but not too much. It takes watercolors and acrylics and shellac inks. It behaves similar to watercolor paper, and the coating can be structured in many ways (using sand or pigments, or by scratching and so on). Another point is that it might be possible to scratch /sand off a painting or areas of a painting that didn't come out the way you wanted. This is impossible with paper. #experiments #paintingsinprogress #paintingexperiment #clayground #polystyrol #clayboard #kaolin #marble #watercolorjourney https://www.instagram.com/p/B9RsUJUqYXd/?igshid=17gh8sacnd7p2
