At long last, Gen 10 has been revealed. Overall, I’m mostly excited. While I’d rather they fully go back to the cell shaded like, the game still looks nice. And hopefully it’ll run… at least adequately. This had a total of five years to cook after all.
We’re going back to tropical island vibes again, but I’m cool with it since it’ll be in the new open world style of gameplay. Speaking of open world, I do hope they add either a way to see each island/ gym's recommended level on the map, or a world level system that lets you truly explore more freely.
As for the starters… They’re good. I see we’re still sticking to the more personality based designs for starters since Gen 7. Browt is grumpy, Pomdon is no thoughts only :D, and Gecqua is… lowkey kinda sultry, ngl. As always, though, a big part of a starters charm is what they evolve into, so thoughts on the starters are bound to shift and evolve. Speaking of their possible evolutions…
I think Browt will become grass flying, a full on “Winds” starter. I’ve seen some people guess it’s a Tawny Frogmouth. Others some kind of Garuda. Either way, I’m guessing something angular and on the cooler and edgier side since Pomdon is very fluffy in its shape language, and Gecqua very smooth and soft.
Pomdon will obviously become a bipedal fire/ fighting type. In all seriousness, I get the feeling it’ll become more of a guardian lion dog type creature. I can also see it getting a volcano theme as it evolves as well.
Gecqua I can see evolving into a marine iguana. Also if any starter becomes furry bait, it’s this one.
All in all, my main hopes are decent performance, character writing on the level of ZA, voice acting, and for the love of god add more eeveelutions. I’m confident this gen will deliver on Pokemon and Character designs as always. My biggest fears: abandonment of turned based combat, and an 80$ price tag.
One last thing that has me interested is that this games coming out next year. I’ve never seen a hype cycle for a new gen last that long. Makes me wonder how much news we’ll get and how frequently. Cause one of the most fun things about a new gen is the hype cycle, getting to see new Pokemon and character designs every month or two. I guess in the end, it’ll all depend on when in 2027 the game releases. Considering how complete the game looks, I’m thinking maybe spring or summer. But then again it could also be a holiday release for tradition. Either way, I just hope the hype cycle doesn’t get too slow.
