I will say i was already feeling system-y before learning about Plato's theory of the self but then i read it an i was like . Well fuck. That feels like how shit goes on around here.
There's the Appetites, or base needs/desires of the self. (Depicted as a hydra)
Then there's the Spirit, or Spirit of Passion/Courage, which is for the ambitions and self-preservation but also self-fulfillment and, to a degree, leans toward recklessness but also again the self-preservation. Taking risks but also overprotective. Usually depicted as a lion.
And finally there's Reason. The part of the self that can actually discern between actions and choices, and make the best one even if its uncomfortable or dangerous, that the Spirit wouldnt really take. Depicted as a person.
And he also said that the hierarchy order of who should be in charge is Reason -> Spirit -> Appetites.
And that's kind of how I feel.
There's a me- Eva/Evan/Lance/Pomn/[Legal name]- that is "frontstuck". Always has been, always will be. More or less.
But then there is ambition here, and courage, and desire to build oneself up.
And of course the appetites- the base desires. Seeking pleasure (sexual or otherwise), satisfaction of hunger, attention, whimsy. Like, the nine delights.
It's kind of a triangle- there are a lot of appetites, and while theyre not necessarily limited to just those singular desires, they usually are. Theres a lot of them.
The Spirit has a handful- they'd be the more "round" and "fleshed out" "characters".
And Reason is just one person. One being.
But thats how I feel i am. At least, that structure puts everything else into a perspective that explains my frontstuck-ness, and how I dont ever experience memory gaps, but I do feel like I'm not always the one saying things or expressing desires- thats something speaking up *in* and *through* me.
So. Yeah.
