SELENA
Ponchaveli
Two decades after her tragic death at the hands of her friend, former employee, and president of her fan club, Selena Quintanilla’s popularity shows little sign of waning. A tribute concert in 2005 on the 10th anniversary of her death was the highest rated and most viewed Spanish-language television special of all time, and a 2015 event in Corpus Christi, Texas, drew 52,000 attendees from around the U.S. and several countries internationally. Not to be left out in showing their love for the Queen of Tejano Music, Dallas fans have flocked to this Theo Ponchaveli piece at Commerce Street and Sylvan Avenue. Self-taught artist Ponchaveli was born a natural lefty, but after an incident as a teenager left him partially paralyzed in that hand he was able to make the transition to right handed artist with a growing portfolio of high-profile portraits. @ponchaveli
THE FATHER PROJECT WITH PONCHAVELI
Artist J. Taylor meets with Dallas based artist Ponchaveli in front of his spirited JFK mural to discuss The Father Project. Ponchaveli describes being a father as "his career" and leads by example with his ability to create something interesting out of a little bit of nothing. The creativity of this artist is definitely admired by other creatives such as Bruce Springsteen who took a selfie in front of the mural.
