Fis Mehefin, mae cyfle i glywed cynhyrchydd a chydawdur ffilmiau The Terminator, Gale Anne Hurd, mewn sgwrs yn Sinema Pontio, Bangor i ddathlu 40 mlynedd ers rhyddhau’r ffilm.
Fel rhan o gynhadledd Terminator @ 40: Origins and Legacies a gynhelir gan y Ganolfan Astudiaeth Ffilm, Teledu a Sgrin ym Mhrifysgol Bangor bydd dangosiad arbennig o The Terminator gan James Cameron yn ogystal â sgwrs gyda Gale Anne Hurd.
Mae Gale Ann Hurd yn gynhyrchydd arobryn ac yn sylfaenydd Valhalla Entertainment, sy’n fwyaf adnabyddus yn ddiweddar am y ffenomen ddiwylliannol fyd-eang, y gyfres deledu sydd wedi ennill Emmy ac wedi chwalu sawl record, The Walking Dead, a’r sawl cyfres cysylltiol: Fear The Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, a The Ones Who Live a ffilmiau nodwedd clasurol eiconig fel Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon, Tremors, Alien Nation, The Ghost and The Darkness, The Terminator a Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Bwriad y gynhadledd a gynhelir gan Canolfan Astudiaethau Ffilm, Teledu a Sgrîn Prifysgol Bangor yw dod ag ysgolheigion o gefndiroedd disgyblaethol amrywiol – megis astudiaethau sgrin a diwyllianol, hanes celf, dylunio, ffasiwn a phensaernïaeth, cerddoleg; athroniaeth; gwyddoniaeth wleidyddol, llenyddiaeth a llawer mwy er mwyn archwilio gwreiddiau a gwaddol The Terminator deugain mlynedd wedi iddo gael ei ryddhau.

This June, Pontio Cinema welcomes producer and co-author of The Terminator films, Gale Anne Hurd, for a Q&A session, to celebrate 40 years since the release of The Terminator.
As part of the Terminator @40: Origins and Legacies conference hosted by the Centre for Film, Television and Screen Studies at Bangor University, we will host a special screening of James Cameron's The Terminator. Before the screening, we will be joined by producer and co-writer of the film Gale Anne Hurd.
Gale Anne Hurd is a multi-award-winning producer and the founder of Valhalla Entertainment, most recently known for the global cultural phenomenon, Emmy®-winning and record-shattering TV series, The Walking Dead, and its multiple spin-offs, including Fear the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live, and such iconic classic feature films as Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon, Tremors, Alien Nation, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The conference hosted by the Centre for Film, Television and Screen Studies at Bangor University proposes to bring together scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds – such as cultural and screen studies; the history of art, design, fashion and architecture; musicology; philosophy; political sciences; literature - to explore The Terminator forty years after its release, explore its origins and legacies and consider its position within wider visual culture.

I attended a lecture talk in Pontio with Annie Atkins as the artist. It was truly hyped up by everyone around me, especially graphic designers and film fanatics. Of course it is because she is graphic designer for film. Her talk was captivating and it did not feel like I was there for two hours.
She talked a lot about The Grand Budapest Hotel and her involvement in it, which was so incredible. She made me realise the finesse of filmmaking that people don’t really talk about. It goes beyond the acting and makeup and costume making.. it is all about the details. She is one of the people that believes in detail- once it is all brought together, it really makes the artwork precious and very original. This is great, because I have always been a detail lover. I struggle with simplicity and minimalism, I love to approach projects with tons of detail in them! I wish to work in Interior Design and I feel as if detail is very important there. Not only from a practical point of view, but also from a professional and artistic point of view. It shows how careful she is about her work and how she makes sure it turns out just perfect. Funnily enough, she made a spelling mistake on many boxes she had made for the set. It showed how important it is to have a good team and good communication with it too. The post-edit really helped her and I hope to experience a team as helpful as hers. The Mendl’s box is actually my favourite object she had made! I am not sure why. Is it because I am obssessive about caligraphy and typography ? In my country, this is vital in school work, so I grew up trying to have the best writing. Is it the colour palette, as it is my two favourite colours together?
No.
It is the way she executed the object and how it was actually a hero prop (learned some terminology too!) in the movie. This movie really impressed me in terms of visuals and directing, as well as acting and aesthetics. I am glad to have met the artist behind the small details that really bring it all together.
We had the opportunity to work with real clients in the new year- The Gandini jugglers that will do a show in Pontio, our local Arts Centre. It is also a space that is connected with Bangor University for students to relax and work in. Me and my group were assigned the Columns/Pillars in the cafe in Pontio. They had asked us to research the Gandini jugglers and base the work on them, but also make the work suitable within a commercial, spacious place. The Gandini jugglers place emphasis not only on the juggling itself but also on the elegance and geometry behind their dance moves. Their dance is inspired by the traditional Indian dance: Bharatanatyam ( Tamil Nadu). Therefore, we took elements from all of these places and came up with three different designs. I had worked mainly on the middle column (as seen in the first photo). I used their dance moves to create a rhombus shape, added a few juggling balls and an impactful flower as a centrepiece. We kept it clean and minimal for it to suit a white space and make it pleasing to the eye. We still wanted to use a consistent colour palette of red, blue, orange and gold to suit the other groups as well and work together as one project. It was slightly challenging as we had never worked in groups before in Foundation; however, I appreciate the opportunity as it has shown everyone’s skills combined into one project. This live brief prepares us for the real world that we shall interact with in our Undergraduate years as well as our future careers.

Beth oedd y peth mwyaf diddorol am greu’r gwaith yma?
Cael mewnwelediad i'r byd dawns gyfoes a sylwi ar y cysylltiadau cryf rhwng celf weledol a dawns. Dwi wrth fy modd efo sut mae'r meddwl tu ôl i ddarnau o waith mewn meysydd celfyddydau gwahanol yn gallu bod reit debyg, ond mae’r allbynnau mor wahanol ac amrywiol.
Sut mae’r cyfnod presennol yn effeithio ar dy waith di?
Mae’r cyfnod presennol yn cael effaith mawr ar fy ngwaith i. Mae llawer o fy ngwaith yn dibynnu ar ddigwyddiadau byw, cynulleidfa neu gyfranogwyr, a’r gallu i deithio i greu - o fynd i’r llyfrgell i ymchwilio, i recordio sain, fideo ac ati yn y byd agored, sy’n golygu bod creu gwaith yn y tŷ yn eithaf anodd. Mae’n teimlo ‘chydig fel bod fy incwm, pwrpas a bywyd cymdeithasol wedi diflannu dros nos - cyfnod caled i bawb.

The Other Room, theatr dafarn gyntaf Caerdydd, yn ymweld â Pontio
Bydd The Other Room – theatr dafarn Caerdydd – yn dod a'r triawd o ddramâu dystopaidd sy’n cael eu cynhyrchu ganddi, sef THE VIOLENCE SERIES, i Theatr Stwidio Pontio rhwng Dydd Mercher 12 Chwefror a Dydd Gwener 14 Chwefror ar y daith gyntaf erioed i’r theatr ymgymryd â hi.
Bydd The Other Room yn tynnu tair drama newydd sbon allan o’u theatr fechan ac yn eu cyflwyno fel antholeg fyw ymdrochol ar lwyfannau ledled Cymru ac yn Llundain, gan roi cyfle i gynulleidfaoedd fwynhau’r gyfres i’r eithaf a chael profiad o’r tri chynhyrchiad ar y cyd.
Tair o ddramâu dystopaidd yw THE VIOLENCE SERIES – gweithiau a ysgrifennwyd gan Matthew Bulgo, Tess Berry-Hart a Mari Izzard ac a osodwyd mewn byd sy’n gyfarwydd ond ar dân. Wedi eu comisiynu a’u cynhyrchu gan The Other Room ar gyfer Tymor yr Hydref 2019, mae pob drama’n archwilio’r themâu sy’n ein rhannu ni ac yn gofyn cwestiynau dwfn ynghylch ochr dywyll y ddynoliaeth. Pa bryd mae gweithred yn troi’n dreisiol? A ddylen ni wir ymladd tân â thân? A pha mor bell fyddech chi’n fodlon mynd er mwyn ei osgoi?
Drama ias a chyffro sinigaidd yw American Nightmare gan Matthew Bulgo; mae’n archwilio’r gagendor dwfn rhwng y cyfoethog a’r tlawd, a hynny yn erbyn cefnlen o lymder yn America yn y dyfodol gweddol agos.
Mae The Story, sy’n nodi ymddangosiad cyntaf Tess Berry-Hart yng Nghymru, yn archwiliad anesmwyth o gondemniad moesol a chyfrifoldeb personol sy’n cadw’r gynulleidfa ar flaenau eu seddi hyd y diwedd un.
Wedi’i hysbrydoli gan waith Tess gyda ffoaduriaid o garchardai Assad a charchardai Libya, mae’n dilyn stori gwirfoddolwr sy’n cyrraedd yn ôl o weithio mewn gwersyll i ffoaduriaid i ddarganfod ei bod bellach yn “elyn y bobl”. Mae The Story yn cwestiynu iaith ‘aralloli’ a’r straeon rydym yn eu hadrodd wrthym ein hunain i gyfiawnhau trais.
Ym mhob perfformiad, dilynir The Story gan Hela, hanes cythryblus am gyfrinachau tywyll teuluol ac ymdrech ddiflino am gyfiawnder, a ysgrifennwyd gan Mari Izzard, enillydd Gwobr Violet Burns i Ddramodwyr; mae’r testun yn cynnwys testun Cymraeg a Saesneg, a’r cyfan wedi’i blethu ynghyd dan gyfarwyddyd Cyfarwyddwr Artistig The Other Room, Dan Jones.
Wedi’i gosod mewn Cymru ddystopaidd, lle mae cyfiawnder – fel popeth arall – yn cael ei benderfynu gan algorithm, mae Hela yn gofyn cwestiynau treiddgar megis a allwn roi ein ffydd yn ein hobsesiwn gyda data, a pha mor bell rydyn ni’n fodlon mynd er mwyn sicrhau cyfiawnder.

Felly, os ydyn ni’n creu antholeg o ddramâu, pam na allwn ni roi cyfle i weddill Cymru hefyd fwynhau’r gyfres. Mae rhannu ein gwaith gyda gweddill Cymru yn rhywbeth nad ydyn ni wedi’i wneud erioed o’r blaen, ac rwy’n hynod falch o’r holl waith caled a gyflawnwyd er mwyn gwireddu’r syniad. Mae’r un peth yn wir am Loegr. O un brifddinas i’r llall, rydym wrth ein bodd yn cael cyfle o’r diwedd i rannu tymor cyfan o waith gyda’n cefnogwyr lluosog yn Llundain.
Rydyn ni i gyd yn teimlo’r tensiwn yn yr aer a thrwy ein sgriniau. Gallwn achosi’r fath boen i’n gilydd – ac nid mewn modd corfforol yn unig; nid cyflafan yw The Violence Series o bell ffordd. Mae ein trais yn gynnil, yn ddichellgar ac weithiau’n hurt bost. Mae’r triawd hwn o weithiau ias a chyffro yn arddangos y gorau sydd gan Gymru i’w gynnig, gyda rhai o’n hartistiaid mwyaf adnabyddus yn gweithio’n agos gyda thalentau newydd o Gymru a rhai sydd wedi’u lleoli yma.
