Poodle Clips
When it comes to grooming poodles, the style that first springs to mind is the one that we all recognise in which the poodle is clean shaven except for around the feet and head/neck area. If you are considering a dog grooming career you most likely have alrady wondered how you would manage poodle clipping. And of course the kind of cut will be dependent on whether the poodle is being groomed for showing or for comfort at home.
So what are some of the frequently requested styles that a groomer needs to be able to manage?
The Modified Continental Clip This style differs from the popular Continental Clip simply with respect to how the hip rosettes are done. As with the Continental Clip, the body is closely shaved, poms left on the legs and tail and the topknot pulled back into a ponytail. The Continental clip uses rosettes right over the hip joint whereas in the modified clip, inclusion of the hip rosettes is a matter of personal preference.
The Utility Clip This easy-to-maintain, summer style is also often referred to as the Kennel clip. The feet, face, and base of the tail are shaved closely. This time, the hair on the body is kept short by use of something like a 7 blade and is simply clipped into shape. The topknot and tail hair are longer than the torso hair.
