I don’t know how I never realized this but…. does isabela ever actually speak to mariano in the movie? Sure she’s sat beside him at dinner and is around him at some points but do they ever actually have a conversation?

Funnily enough I think mirabel actually spoke to him more than isabela did so that should have been sign number one she was NOT into this man💀 every scene where isa and Mariano are together it’s always Mariano who’s saying something and isa just says nothing and strains a smile.

i dont think ive seen anyone bring this up yet but i rly feel bad for isa in the scene after what else can i do when mirabel and alma are arguing and alma calls isa “out of control” like 😭 imagine finding urself and being happy then a person whose opinion u care abt calls that “being out of control” naur

The scene makes me so sad every time!! Especially her face 😭 she really looks so scared for being caught doing "something wrong" when she didn't. I feel that so hard!! No wonder she tried so hard to uphold her perfect facade if that's the reaction she gets for having her rebel phase. Imagine not being allowed your cringy teen phases and now your 22 and getting scolded for dying your hair I'm-

she goes back and spends 4 hours trying to get every move perfect only for luisa to come in next day saying she “made some adjustments”😭

Poor Isa — Let’s Drink the Sea and Dance (Aspen Edities)

A couple years back Belgian jazz guitarists Frederik Leroux and Ruben Machtelinckx split a record devoted to a shared preoccupation — the banjo. Unencumbered by any culturally prescribed notion of how they should play the instrument, each used effects and amplification to launch it into unfamiliar sonic territory. Perhaps it was inevitable that they’d join forces; after all, how many experimental banjo players can there be in Belgium? Like-minded fellows need to stick together. 

But that doesn’t mean that their record was destined to sound like this. It would be possible to get through much of Let’s Drink the Sea and Dance without noticing that banjos were involved. For a start, both musicians are credited with woodblocks and voice in addition to banjo. The rasping, sustained sounds and stately cadence of “The Sun at Two” are more like some private ceremony overheard from within some temple in Kyoto than anything played on an Appalachian porch or Flemish jazz club. On “Oceanfuls” and “Seagarden,” sparse wooden reports further the ritual Japanese vibe, but sustained sounds that might issue from a portative organ (although none is credited) suggest the service might be taking place much closer to the musicians’ neck of the woods.  

While the geographical and stylistic references change from tune to tune, the entire album sustains a contemplative mood. This places the duo’s music at odds with the work of other experimental banjoists. Eugene Chadbourne mixes roots moves with post-Derek Baily agitation; your typical Paul Metzger raga sounds like it’s being driven by an Apollo rocket lift-off module. These guys make music that’s apt for a slow walking meditation, and acknowledge their jazz associations by including sounds that just might come from someone applying brushes to the skin covering his banjo’s frame. Unfamiliar and non-aggressive, this is a record to ponder and appreciate for its singularity.
