Thoma’s question takes Ayato a bit by surprise. at this point, he feels like he’s exhausted the tales of all his travels to Thoma. The man was his main confidant, after all. He always relayed the details the other man as if he were some sort of human journal—that was a testament to the amount of trust he placed in Thoma. He crosses an arm over his chest, the hand of his other reaching up to rub his chin in thought as he racks his brain for something new and exciting to tell Thoma about. Rather than jump right in, though, Ayato decides to mess with Thoma just a little bit. He wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t poke fun at him just a bit, now would he?
“What’s this? Slacking a bit on the job now, are we Thoma?” Ayato’s eyes twinkle with a playful mirth, the only other indication of his teasing aside from the slight shift in his questioning tone. Thoma’s used to it by now, he’s certain, but he always likes to try it just to see if he can pull an amusing reaction from him. Despite his question, Thoma is right. Ayato’s just about finished up his paperwork, and he’s certain the estate is pristine as always. He really could never thank Thoma enough for all that he did for his family.
“Hmm... Let’s see... Have I ever told you about the time I almost got poisoned in Snezhnaya? I’m pretty sure I was being followed by an assassin the entire time, now that I think of it... Yes, how peculiar.”
