“I don’t even know which classes I’m supposed to teach”
First day back at University and I have had my mind blown three times already. It started during a meeting with one of my teachers. We were going over the new curriculum they created for the first-year students when I asked him whether he knew when the schedules are appearing online. What he said next kind of shocked me: 'I don’t know, I don’t have my own schedule yet and I don’t even know which classes I’m supposed to teach". I was baffled. I thought it was shameful students hadn’t had their schedule yet, but it is more shocking to find out that even the teachers know just as little.
With only one week of ‘vacation’ left, you’d expect to have at least some information on the coming year. Not knowing which class you’re in, what your schedule is, or even where you can access this information since it is nowhere to be found online, which brings me to my second point.
At the end of last year, they told us the study guide would be online halfway through August. At this point, we’re three days away till September is here and the study guide is still NOWHERE to be found. How will I know what I am supposed to do this year? Luckily, I am one of those students whose perfectionism always gets in the way and took a look at last year’s study guide at the end of last year. So, unless they made some extensive changes, I think I will be fine, but not all students are like that.
Lastly, I overheard teachers talk about how their manager treats them, and it shocked me. Of course, I cannot go into this in length, but I find it mind-blowing how one person can act as friendly and nice as sugar to her students, and as a true nightmare to her personnel. It has made me look differently at some people and also has made me wonder how many people play nice opposed to the ones that are genuinely kind.
The main point of this blog was to display my unbelief on how poorly planned everything can be when you’d expect it to be organized well. I guess that one is on me. My expectation bar was set too high, even for something as simple as publishing a schedule.
An enigma. #chickencarwashsubs #baddesign #poorlyplanned #what #fail @picturesoftext
