Thanks!! Okay, this is absolutely silly because someone saying “Oh fuck” will always be funny to me, no matter the context. Here, have some fluff.
Explanation: Marius wakes up after an operation and is high as a kite from his medications.
His head is fuzzy but Marius is warm and cosy and comfortable, so he sighs contentedly and turns on his side to pull that something that is soft and fluffy closer to him. It is like hugging a cloud he thinks. His room does not have clouds. Maybe he should ask his grandfather to buy some clouds for him. Marius is sure that if he behaves at the next dinner, he will get them.
Clouds in his room.
Yes…
What a nice thought…
He thinks that he is in heaven because he is soaring high and he is weightless. If he lets go of the cloud he is holding he might float away. That would be not good. His grandfather will surely be angry with him. Maybe if he asks nicely he will be allowed to go and be with the clouds. Yes, that sounds like a good plan. He must go to his grandfather to tell him. He turns again, careful to not let go of his cloud and opens his eyes.
There is an angel looking down at him. The angel has hair like the sun and eyes like the sky. The angel is pretty — no — beautiful.
And the angel is speaking to him.
Marius cannot understand what the angel says, how could he, he is just a cloud after all and clouds cannot understand speaking. The angel is not smiling but he wants the angel to smile. Maybe the angel does not know how to smile? He smiles. He is happy that he can teach the angel how to smile. He thinks that if the angel smiles, the angel will look more beautiful.
“Beautiful,” Marius says and closes his eyes.
“-rius! Are you awake?”
He opens his eyes again because he thinks the angel has called his name.
“Marius, can you hear me?” the angel asks. The voice is sweet and comforting. Marius thinks that this voice can sing beautiful songs for the birds. Marius likes the voice, and if he can understand the angel now, maybe the angel can understand him.
“I must go,” Marius tells the angel, “to grandfather.”
He sits up. The clouds are carrying him still, and maybe if he moves to the edge, he can jump to his grandfather’s mansion. But the angel puts a hand on his chest to hold him back.
“No, you need to stay here.”
Marius frowns. Is he not allowed to leave heaven? But his grandfather will surely be angry.
“I must go,” he says, “to become a cloud.” Yes, the angel will understand because he is not leaving heaven, he will come back. He only needs to tell his grandfather.
“What? No, lay back!”
He tries to move but his limbs do not obey him properly. Marius is suprised he still has limbs. Maybe the clouds also want him to tell his grandfather first.
“Marius, what are you doing?”
He finally has reached the end of the cloud and his feet dangle over the edge. Marius looks down at his toes. The toes move funnily and he thinks that he will miss them. Toes look like good friends.
“The clouds don’t have toes,” he says.
“Of course, they don’t.”
“I want to be a cloud.”
“Okay?”
“I need to tell grandfather that I want to be a cloud!” Does the angel understand him better now? He tries to move again.
“You can’t.” The angel seems angry. He does not want the angel to be angry with him.
But he does not want to stay either. The clouds are waiting for him and if the angel lets him go, he can return sooner. He makes a leap for it.
“Marius!”
There is something soft and warm against him and he soon realizes that it is the angel holding him.
“Oh fuck, oh fuck,” the angels says. “Okay, okay, lay back. Careful… that’s it. Now, let go.”
Marius does not want to let go. It is warm and safe. Marius feels very safe and nice. “You smell good,” he says. “Other angels must smell good, too!”
The angel makes a sound. It sounds like a cough… no, a hiccough. And when he looks to see if everything is well, he angel’s face is red. Marius thinks, it looks very pretty, but the angel might be unwell. He reaches out to put his hand on the angel’s forehead like he remembers other people have done when he was unwell. It feels very warm.
“I’m going to call a nurse, okay?” the angel says when Marius finally and very reluctantly lets go.
Marius shakes his head.
“The nurse will let you go.”
“Then I can be a cloud!” Marius is excited.
“Exactly.”
Even though his head is still fuzzy, he thinks that he must bake a cake for the angel before he becomes a cloud because the angel is so nice to him. He knows that the angel likes strawberry cake.
When the nurse comes, they make him feel sleepy again. He does not want to go to sleep, but the angel holds his hands and tells him that the angel will be there when he wakes up again.
Marius thinks that it will be all right. His grandfather cannot win against an angel. He is safe now.
