Looking at the port under my skin like yeah that’s just there now isn’t it 🙃
I have to handle a half hour drive on tuesday since I apparently can’t get my stitches taken out anywhere near me, including a local alternative hospital that I’ve been to before 😭 brother the appointments are gonna take me out sooner than my disorders will at this point
Reading these post op papers is such bullshit because it’s saying “you’ll be back to “normal” within a few days”¿ don’t know who that was written for but it’s definitely not me considering I can’t even sit up in my own bed and am still limited to bird baths, big boy pills, and immeasurable fatigue but oh okay sure I’ll be back to normal soon… right?
The skin crawling feeling I get when I accidentally touch the catheter that’s hooked over my collarbone under my fuckin sKIN RAH
I haven't been keeping this diary because tbh I haven't needed it, but hopefully this will help somebody.
Port surgery is not as scary as everybody makes it out to be and it doesn't hurt as much as people say it does.
I went to the hospital to do my port surgery yesterday and everybody was nice. I went to surgical daycare and the nurses were really nice to me. They changed me into hospital clothes, filled me with a bit of saline (this is an IV if you're needlephobic like me), and took me to the the operating room. They gave me warm blankets to help me relax. In the operating room, they gave me meds for pain management and anti-anxiety. They also administered a local anaesthetic so my chest was numb.
I fell asleep instantly. I woke up and it was over. They wheeled me back to surgical daycare and I passed out for about two hours. They kept me there to see if I would have an allergic reaction to anything, but it was all good.
I got driven home by a friend's mom who I've been hiring as a caretaker recently (she's unemployed and could use the money) and she made me congee. I ate it and then fell asleep for 12 hours.
I woke up and it did hurt like a bitch, but I took some painkillers every 6 hours and now it's about 28 hours out and it doesn't hurt. I barely feel it. The scarring is pretty bad but it looks way worse than it actually is.
It's not as scary as you think it is. You'll be okay. I was really scared too. But I was okay.
I just need the world to stop for a little while. I need people to stop killing each other and causing drama and fighting. I need my dashboard to go back to puppies and pictures of sunsets.
If I had any doubt that ivig was helping, I definitely know it now. I didn't get my full dose 2 weeks ago, and since then everything has been slipping backwards. Sleep has been horrible, I have no energy, and I've had almost constant headaches the last few days. I have my port replacement surgery on Friday, so hopefully I'll be able to get my next dose of ivig 1-2 weeks after.
