just asked about a path being made for me outside so I can still get to my spot in my wheelchair but this also means I have to buy a ramp

For me it feels like both.

I know that without my wheelchair I’d be completely bed bound. My wheelchair allows me to go outside and work and have a social life and go sailing and all the things I love doing.

But it can’t go everywhere I want to go and I’ve lost places with huge sentimental importance to me and that sucks. And because my wheelchair pretty much encases me on all sides and I can’t get out of my wheelchair without a hoist, I end up feeling like it separates me from everyone and everything around me.

I’m happy for people whose wheelchairs feel liberating and who have largely positive relationships with them. I wish that there was more room in some disability spaces for people with more difficult feelings and recognition that those experiences aren’t necessarily rooted in ableism.

the annoyance of having a caregiver who is trying to be helpful but (without asking me) adjusts something in my space that I had in a specific way to fit my specific needs for a specific reason omg just don’t touch my shit unless I ask, it’s the exact opposite of helpful if you don’t ask first

i hate that it's seen as a radical idea to think that disabled people deserve to live comfortably. not just bare bones survival, but comfortably. they deserve to thrive, even. deserve to live gluttonously if they so desire. everyone else gets at least bare minimum opportunities to spend their money on treats and special things - and disabled people live to indulge too if they so desire, without shaming them. expecting them to live with monetary scraps is evil and torturous. this doesn't even cover those who aren't financially supported, nor does it cover the reality that whatever monetary scraps they do get are able to be taken away at any point.
