I've had a lot of time to think what I was going to do when I found you. My father might as well have died because of what your old man did to him. It would have been better if he had. But only his mind died in prison. And I've arranged to do as much for you. Oh, you'll die, all right. But your mind will go first."

Dix is back in the lead role (not as the Whistler; he just introduces the story)#but he's cast less sympathetically here‚ as a fraudster attempting to falsely claim an inheritance that rightly belongs to a man who just #happens to have the same name (i know‚ it's a stretch). our omniscient narrator clearly disapproves as he crops up several times to taunt #Dix for his moral shortcomings (and‚ uh‚ to menacingly whistle at him). there follows a rather silly story full of misidentifications and #a rather obvious twist cued up very early.. but this is cozy‚ lovely stuff all the same. quite a lot of fun oddball characters on the #periphery but none can match the inspired lunacy of J. Carrol Naish in the first film. fun stuff; rather like a mystery crime drama version #of near contemporary horror film series The Inner Sanctum.
