Three months ago, a few days after the first case of Covid-19 was identified in France, I published a drawing(the third image) explaining the differences of mast-wearing habits between China and France. At the time, wearing a mask by the non-sick population was not recommended by the French Ministry of Health, and there were several incidents on public transport where people wearing masks were discriminated against or insulted. Today, wearing masks in public transport is mandatory in France. A person without a mask can get a fine of 135 euros. Scientists and government consultants have changed their opinions. I have no intention to continue the debate about the effectiveness of masks, but I realized how quickly we can change our minds completely, even though for decades, research on confirmation bias has shown that we are more likely to look out for, notice and remember anything that confirms opinions we already hold. Opinions are not as solid or fixed as we think.
