I found out it’s possible to wear sunglasses during surgery. Not that I’ve had it yet. The nurses were unable to access my veins for an IV. So because of this and my intolerance for most pain killers, they called an anesthesiologist to stick me and to completely knock me out for my port removal. He successfully got my IV in and then got a call about an emergency cesarean. Two years ago, on January 26th, 2013, my life would be changed forever. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. Through two years of hardships, doctor visits, chemotherapy treatments, and making chapel hill home..this sucker has stayed implanted in my chest as an IV to help me receive chemotherapy, blood work, and all kinda of other medication. When my surgeon first put this in, he told me his favorite surgery was removing this. His exact quote was "when we take this out, that means you've won". Today, I woke up in the recovery room with this in my hand. This has possibly been the most brutal battle me and my family have had to face and today we stand in victory. Thank you to every one of my friends who stuck with me and picked me up when I was struggling, my family who could not have been more supportive and loving (and for putting up with me) and every single doctor and nurse I've worked with.
