Posana!!!
So, I could never blog about GF restaurants without mentioning the amazing jewel I found in Asheville, NC last year - Posana Cafe. Yes, I did just post about restaurants, but Posana deserves its own post. Why? Because it's TOTALLY gluten free. Yep. Totally. I discovered Posana last March when my husband and I went to Asheville for our anniversary. As I was searching Google for GF friendly restaurants, I stumbled upon Posana. Review after review kept saying something about the menu being gluten free. I couldn't believe it. So I called. Imagine my delight when the voice on the other end of the line confirmed that yes, Posana Cafe was totally gluten free (aside from a few bottled beers at the bar). I made our reservation right then. We had an amazing meal. Quail appetizer. Canneloni entree. Mouthwatering chocolate almond cake for dessert. Fantastic wines from an impressive selection. We were so impressed that we went back the next day for brunch - chocolate sticky buns, pancakes, waffles.... mmmmm. While the food was to die for, maybe the best part of the meal was the fact that I could order ANYTHING off the menu. No restrictions or limitations. What a great feeling! Chef Peter Pollay doesn't just make gluten free food. He makes gourmet food. The flavors and combinations are out of this world. He's also an ever-present entity at the restaurant. The host remembered us from the night before and while we were waiting on our brunch, Chef Peter himself stopped by our table. What an awesome experience! Hopefully, other chefs will catch onto this idea. Being a gluten free restaurant hasn't impeded Posana's success. Saturday night reservations can be hard to come by and the location is prime downtown Asheville real estate. Foodies as well as folks with a gluten sensitivity can enjoy this restaurant. I'm hoping this becomes a trend and that more GF restaurants will be popping up soon. Check out the webpage: www.posanacafe.com
