I admit, I haven’t been keeping up with a lot of WIPs as of late because, you know, school is a monster, but I recently came across @farrradays‘ When the Night Falls and fell in love. The characters, their dynamics, the story world - go check it out, you will not be disappointed!

🥓 — Tell you why everyone would love my WIPs!

I mean, who doesn’t love soft friendships that grow between unsuspecting opposites and loving, healthy relationships between huge nerds who help each other see just how loved they are? 

Or prose that takes your hand and shows you something you hadn’t noticed before? Something that is both familiar and brand new at the same time? A way of looking at something you’ve seen for so long it’s slipped into the background, that now feels brand new?

Or pining? Lots and lots of pining. And softness. And social commentary. And dry humor. And disaster characters who try really hard. And grumpus characters with hearts too big for their chests. And lots and lots of good good feels.

🍔 — Tell you a writeblr that I admire!

@ren-c-leyn!!!! I don’t know how they don’t have a bajillion followers yet because they are so goddamn worthy. Go follow them immediately. I promise you all the best content, caring and careful prose, poetry that tugs at your heart and your imagination in turn, and just a seriously great human being behind it all.

I love me a good sweet story with some serious feels, and @milkyway-writes‘ Love Is checks all my reader boxes. It gives my heart the warm-and-fuzzies. Kit and Emily are my OTP.

🥚 — Tag a writeblr that I love, but haven’t had the chance to talk to yet!

@urbanteeth! I’m not someone who can easily drop into someone’s messages and say hi, but I love everything they do. And they’re a super cool person! 

I love the Perseus Crew. Nerds in space is one of my favorite genres, and they write it so, so well. I’m excited to learn more about their NaNo project, too!

🥞 — Talk about how much I love an OC of mine!

I have a small handful of WIPs goin’ right now, and I love all my people (especially Mel and Gemma and Will), but, if it please the court, allow me to present to you:

The Overseer (aka Ryan Sinclair) of Fish Food

My resident awkward disaster nerd who cares a whole bunch and just might be better off on a different career path.

Actually, he would most definitely be better off on a different career path. But, alas, he fell into villainy and there he will remain. Or will he?

Ryan is a huge dork. He has a pit of piranhas in his lair that he calls his pets, because they are. He treats his drones like small animals. When he met the number one supervillain in Conover City, he embarrassed himself so badly he avoided the entire floor she frequented for a whole month.And he’s a very nice guy who happens to be a villain because he was at rock bottom and took the wrong job.

When I write his dialogue, I imagine the most awkward social scenarios you can get yourself into and channel that energy into writing. It makes for some amazing scenes. 

Something I haven’t mentioned about him... Hm. He’s the equivalent of a high wisdom/low intellect DnD character. People who barely know him are willing to vouch for him and call him a friend. He develops a super odd friendship with Babylon, of all people. Pretty much single-handedly pulls Will out of a serious depression spiral and helps him find solid ground again. 

Will likes to tease him by fake-flirting and Ryan gets super embarrassed because he accidentally hit on Will early in their friendship. He’s still mortified about it. Will will never let him live it down. 

Ryan is the member of your friend group who no one really notices all that much but when he’s not there, something always feels off or incomplete. He’s like the sheer force of positive will that keeps IKEA furniture from collapsing. He also pushes himself to the brink pretty often, which, with his Overexertion Resistance, is a whole lot further than any person should be capable of. Like Will, he is tired, but a different kind of tired.

@royalbounties, you’re super cool and I like your stuff! I loved the prompt you sent in for my 800 celebration! All your WIPs are really cool! And your character dynamics are so carefully developed! I think you’re neat as heck.

🍿 — Tell you something I really love about my writing!

Pacing!!! I’m really good at pacing! I can drag out a scene for just the right amount of time for the emotion to sink in, or time it to the perfect moment for the suspense to take control. It’s one of my favorite things. 

🧂 — Gush about someone’s OC that is absolutely amazing!

So @mvcreates has this amazing WIP called Retrocognition and Annie Malachi owns my whole heart. She’s a badass who deserves the world, I tell ya. I have a serious soft spot for tough characters who can’t admit they have many feelings.

@holotones!! Holotones has been a buddy for a while and I love them. These Violent Delights is something I would totally pick up at the bookstore after I already got everything I had on my list but can’t resist just one more. 

I love my friend and they are a very good writer. 

🧈 — Compliment that last person in my notifications!

@eloquenceandemphasis!!!!! Hello!! You’re great! I smile whenever I see you on my dash! I love how passionate you are about your characters and stories. 

Your NaNo story looks super cool like wow. Stars and destiny and prophecy and trope twisting and names that speak of more? Sign me the hell up.

🧂 — Gush about someone’s OC that is absolutely amazing!

COLIN. MY BOY.

@quilloftheclouds’ Colin is my boy, as stated above, and I love him. He’s a clutzy musician who is too good for his own good. He hates playing the spoons and is a very good violinist. He gets into many Shenanigans in OSS. I mean, he woopsies himself into being a dog! What a goof! 

Colin is a Soft Sunshine Boy who is a pirate and I am a sucker for contrast. Also, we are heterochromia buddies.

🥞 — Talk about how much I love an OC of mine!

Okay but can we talk about Mel though?

I love my weird little adventure nerd so so much. She runs away from home because *spoilers* and winds up in a place that is so wholesome it’s almost untrustworthy. She is unapologetically passionate about her interests. She loves being out in nature and feeling the dirt under her feet. She loves cheesy romance novels, Arthurian legend, and weird science. Mel hates feeling lonely and is afraid of being alone. 

She found one of Gemma’s handmade sweaters and will never give it back. She also commandeered her big pink chunky knit blanket. She’s soft and flowery and whip-crack smart and ambitious. 

🍳 — Thank someone that’s made a huge impact on me and my writeblr experience!

I would be remiss not to mention @pens-swords-stuff, my writeblr hero. 

Like holy shit, y’all, the work they put into this community is amazing. I am an endless font of gratefulness for their hard work and dedication, and all the love they give to us writers. Undine is our North star. 

Dear Undine, I am ride-or-die for you, my friend. You rock all my socks.

I am a big fan of @roselinproductions’ Like Falling Stars (I mean, it’s technically a finished work, but I love it, sooo…). It’s so sweet and full of feelings! And it’s sequel, Constellations, is being posted right now! Man, I really gotta catch up on it.

🍿 — Tell you something I really love about my writing!

I super duper love the way I do flashbacks. They’re one of my favorite things to write. I write transitions so smooth so you don’t even notice you’re in a flashback until you come back to the present-tense story, and it’s so goddamn fluid and graceful and I love it. 

I love doing super technical stuff in my writing.

I love him. My loving common sense sunshine boi. Every goofball needs their guard rail friend. Locke is like the blanket fort you build on a rainy day. I am a sucker for sunshine people who try so, so very hard to be the good the world needs, to fight for the right reasons, and to see their loved ones safe at the end of the day.

We are also heterochromia buddies, so +1.
