let’s be positive; 11x21 & 11x22
I’m baaaaaack! Sorry that I wasn’t around to post a recap last week. It’s finals week at work so I was picking up extra hours in the library. Grad school isn’t gonna pay for itself, after all. Anyway, I’ll just give a few quick thoughts on 11x21 before diving into the gold mine of amazing that was 11x22 (and yes, I really loved it, even though all I see is an endless abyss of bitching on my dash. Let’s fight it with positivity!)
11x21 notes:
There were a lot of good tidbits in this episode. While I’m so overwhelmed with what I just watched I’m having a little trouble recalling what exactly happened last week, I remember that the interactions between Chuck and Dean were the best parts of the episode, imo. Chuck nesting in the Bunker, Dean crying to Chuck about humanity and why he’s a douche for not giving a damn about them, to Dean telling Chuck that Amara is going to take out the entire world and he needs to take charge and stop it. All interesting and a great setup for the fight.
Introducing Donatello was a weird choice, but now that I’ve seen this week, I get why they brought him in. Amara was able to locate Chuck through him, after all.
KEVINNNNNNNNNN. That’s all.
Again, interesting setup for this week’s episode with Dean convincing Chuck to fight on their side instead of just letting Amara destroy the world. Good job, Dean, because I feel like because Dean talked to Chuck, that was a big factor in him deciding to take down Amara.
Oh, and I liked Metatron’s final stand against Amara that brought his redemption full circle.

First, let’s get this out of the way. Unpopular opinion coming! I didn’t have any qualms about the way Cas was treated in this episode. Now, bitter Cas girls, hold your pitchforks for a minute please! I get that you’re angry and upset! I’m a big Cas fan myself, and even though I’m technically a TFW!girl at the core, I go through cycles of being concerned for one member of TFW more than the others, usually based on what’s happening to them during the season’s arc. Season 8 was the time for Sam, seasons 9 and 10 were for Dean, and now season 11 is for Cas. My poor child’s been beaten down and has been told he’s useless, and the only way he thought that he’d be useful was to let Lucifer fight with his vessel. That’s pretty sad, because Cas is worth so much more than that, but he doesn’t see that right now. I’m angry that Cas can’t see his own worth, but I’m not giving up hope yet.
Why, you ask? Because now that Lucifer is gone, I don’t think they’re just gonna throw it all to the wayside and say “Oh, Cas is all better now!” and ignore the blatant worry Dean’s had all season long, or Cas being told that he’s worthless all season long. The time wasn’t tonight; there was way too many cards in the air to focus on that, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen at all. I trust the writers, even if others don’t right now.
But Cas didn’t get to expel him, you yell. Wasn’t that supposed to be a big part of Cas believing in himself again? I’m with you, to be honest lol. I was really pulling for a moment where Dean or Sam (or both!) convinces Cas that he’s a part of their family and that they can do this without Lucifer. That could’ve be amazing, and great for Cas, but again, the timing wasn’t right. Amara smiting Lucifer and taking down Chuck in one go actually was pretty great, because it shows that she’s not going to go down without a fight and is stronger than ever. Plus, Cas is back, and going back to point one, I think we’re going to get a talk between Cas and Dean (if the spoilers from filming are true) about all of this before the season’s over. Hold on, friends.
But Cas can’t talk to Chuck now because he’s dead! Wrong. He’s dying. Big difference. Being a celestial being and all, I’m pretty positive that he can get the juices back for one last go at Amara, and before that I think we could still get a conversation between Cas and Chuck. (I will admit, in a finale this is probably less likely than the others, and that will be one big qualm I’ll have if they don’t get to interact. Cas deserves that talk.)
And one last thing, we got Cas talking to the angels! Lucifer couldn’t convince them, so he let Cas win their trust instead. And guess what? It worked! Even if the angels weren’t exactly nice to him, possibly this is the beginning to Cas realizing that he’s important.
Basically, I’m just asking everyone to put down their pitchforks until we get the whole picture. This episode was great for a ton of reasons, and letting bitterness over your fave cloud the whole thing isn’t what I’m here for, tbh. (Also feel free to rub it in my face if I’m totally wrong and they sideline Cas for the finale, because I’ll join your bitter parade then, lol.)
Getting back to the rest of the episode though, I LOVED everyone working together. The witches, demons, and angels all came under one roof to take down a common enemy, and it was really amazing to watch. It didn’t work, but of course we knew it wouldn’t work! It isn’t finale week yet, and we’ve got a little bit more to go.
Sam offering to take on the MOC was breaking, because one, we really do not need another season of the MOC and two, BOY STOP TRYING TO SACRIFICE YOURSELF GOODNESS. (Eyeing Dean and Cas too, tbh).
Rowena is back and I adore her lots. Her band of witches were also fun to watch, but I’m angry that they didn’t get to go on.
THE COMEDIC TIMING. Omg, it was perfect. “I will turn you into a moose.” Dean’s line about fake apologizing. ACTUAL DROWLEY LINE? BOBO, REALLY. Great comedy all around.
Lucifer and Chuck talking it out was actually pretty wonderful. They’ve got a lot of beef with one another, and this was the first time we saw Chuck taking on responsibility and not pushing it off.
Amara and Chuck talking too was fab. This is what we’ve been waiting for all season long, and it didn’t let us down. Amara is angry, of course, and isn’t gonna let her brother talk it out. She wants retaliation, a fight. That’s what she gets, in the end. Lucifer is expelled, and Chuck is taken down, forced to watch her destroy his creation.
The ball of light at the end? I think that’s a new brand of Amara fog. It’s gonna take out the universe, and our boys (and Rowena!) better think up a good way to avert it.
Next week, it’s finale time. We’re talking go all out, fight the Darkness, cray. Soul bombs, Cas is back, and it Dean’s at the center of it all. Prepare, because we’ve gotta carry on, my wayward son. It’s gonna be great!
