Michael only wanted food and shelter! And they kept bringing up his destiny. Talk about high expectations lmfao. I don’t even think he wanted to be the antichrist anymore. Except the only place he felt remotely safe and welcomed is in a church of Satan. He thinks no one else will accept him or deem him worthy if he wasn’t the spawn of Satan :( Maybe that’s why he was drawn to Mallory? Because he felt that she was lost as well and had something buried inside her
Yeah the concept of destiny being something to fight against is a fave trope of mine. I feel like when he wandered into the church, that was basically his lowest point. He'd been rejected by Tate, Vivian had tried to kill him, Ben had given up on him, the witches murdered people he trusted, and they killed the one person he actually loved. And Cordelia thought he'd actually accept her offer? God knows what his brain "age" actually is, like what's his level of emotional processing? It must be up there but that's still something that hasn't been explained to the audience - like how has the accelerated growth actually affected him mentally, in his human side. Did she think that by pushing the human side of him to breaking point that that would be enough to convince him the error of his ways? Plot twist, maybe killing the one person the anti christ loved and felt a bond to was a bad idea. She sealed the deal, just like how Cody hinted in an interview.
At his lowest point, I definitely believe he stopped giving a shit about his fate or the fact he's the Antichrist because why bother if the one being that should have accepted him wouldn't help or talk to him. But I think that was Satan's plan all along, that Michael had to be pushed to this point, physically and mentally. He doesn't need an instruction manual, he doesn't need to follow daddy Satan's every whim and need. He is chaos incarnate and between this episode and the apocalypse, he definitely seems to really embrace that. Maybe that was because mead came "back" to him. Maybe he finally saw a future of his own creation. People *in the show* seem to be missing the point that he is human. He's mortal. He may basically have superpowers but he is still human and is an emotional creature and has needs and wants. He really honestly wanted a family and to belong but people couldn't see past a destiny that he didn't have to follow.
As for Mallory, absolutely. It's hard to not feel a kinship with people who experience that kind of emptiness. I mean, I can personally relate because I have borderline personality disorder, I don't particularly have a strong definition of myself and I'm often wondering my purpose in life or why I'm here or why any of us are here and I can relate very strongly to how both characters felt. I can absolutely feel what she meant when she said "I feel like something is inside me trying to scrawl out", I'm probably misquoting that but Michael probably has felt that exact feeling, because well, he basically does have a demon inside him. I'm not sure he suspected she was under an identity illusion but she definitely peaked his curiosity because that's not a normal feeling and everyone else seemed to have a concept of self, even coco. I think the identity spell was much more impactful on Mallory. In my perception, I felt like she suddenly lost so much of what made her who she is. No wonder she's deadpan and mopey. I fucking hope she is of God or an angel or something because that's some mother fucking poetic cinema right there and I'm invested in this trope. Hades and Persephone/Adam and Eve is my shit. They are much more alike than they are different. I don't believe he's wrong when he says to her that she would love to murder Coco, because much like his own "light side" - I mean shit, the angels told him that God loves him, that she has her own darkness. Regardless if you ship them, and honestly I'm fine if people don't, I'm just a sucker for this trope, you can't deny that they're much more than they're destined to be, especially Michael. If they kill him, it's going to be the biggest waste of a character ever, in my opinion.
