• austin is a charismatic british villain that essentially keeps getting too distracted by shagging and being a general womanizer to actually accomplish anything evil; basil has to constantly snap him back to reality and get them back on course. all of his main partners in the films are his evil henchwomen. they retain their original personalities. fembots are here still because uhhhhh yeah
• austin is evil because nigel neglected him severely and wanted to be a villain solely to spite his father's occupation as a spy
• dougie good is an awkward, kind of overbearing, somewhat aspec spy who constantly hatches plans to foil austin but ultimately his cat ends up having to be the one to foil the plans. dougie is immune to the charms of austins henchwomen & fembots purely because hes too focused on trying to foil austin, he doesnt even realize theyre hitting on him most the time and probably accidentally kills the fembots by "turning them off" wink wink
• dougie joined the "good guys" because his horrible childhood humbled him as a person
• the agency creates mini me for dougie as a side kick
• frau is like the one woman dougie loved before getting cryogenically frozen by the agency (she becomes lesbian and marries unibrau in this time), and when he unthawed he finds out he has a grown up son. scott wants to join the agency but dougie keeps putting him off because A) hes not "cool enough" and B) secretly doesnt want to lose him in the line of work
• fat bastard is an inside man at austin's virtucon for the agency instead of the other way around
• foxxy is a member of austin's virtucon stationed at goldmembers, but switches to the "good" side for dougie
• vanessa is swapped with frau
• felicity is swapped with mustafa. mustafa still dies like immediately in this au, hence why mini me is created by the agency and why dougie is afraid of scott joining
• goldmember is still goldmember. because hes goldmember.
• basil and number two are swapped here of course. also theyre both gay
I've actually been daydreaming about this!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THESE OMG... genuinely so so brilliant!! I have many thoughts, so buckle in!!!
I think that all of it started back in their school days.
I imagine that the way Austin turns evil is of course, as you said, thanks to his father neglecting him, and him deciding he HATES spies because of that. But also because Dr. Evil was ALMOST awarded the international man of mystery award at the school. and frankly I think Austin was just one straw away from snapping at that unfortunately bleak time in his life.
The 50s were dull for a groovy guy like him. Squares ruled the earth and were everywhere, he had no parents, and really all he has are his passions for music (as shown by his dorm room decor) and girls... which is kind of super sad??? So I think in this world Dougie would become the next international man of mystery while Austin keeps failing his classes and never wins :( So then he becomes EVIL!!! (dun dun dunnnn)
Austin's main goal as a supervillain is to make everything as groovy and switched-on as possible! Everything has to be pretty and everyone has to be fashionable! No squares allowed EVER!!! He wants to see gogo boots, groovy flowers and swinging shindigs 24/7.... he has not changed much in that department... except for the fact that he's EXTREMELY controlling about it now.
Vanessa and Austin have a very very rocky relationship. Much like Frau Farbissina and Dr. Evil. What's even worse for her is in this world, she isn't allowed to take much initiative and tell Austin when he has outdated views or when she's jealous of his swinger life with other birds. So his violent tendencies (of which he intends to change in the first movie) only increase and get worse and worse. Instead of trying to be a better person, he gets mad at people for not being the way they were in the 60s. That whole thing...
Aaand Dr. Evil, I see him being a pretty humble and goofy hero much like how Austin is shown "not being a good spy" and yet always succeeding. Most of his plans to foil Austin end up working completely on accident. Number 2 is more of a "Q" type figure than a Basil Expositon type, because he's more of a serious guy, and I think it really suits him. The Ministry of Defense would likely be much more serious.
But back to just Dr. Evil himself, I heard him say in an Austin Powers Comedy Central TV special that he has what they call "anti-mojo" because he's such a square and he's so awkward!! so i like to think that anti-mojo works on the Fembots in a different way from the Cross-mojonations. Less like making them explode, and more like shutting them down entirely because of how much anti-mojo there is. It's like sending them off-signals, because he's such a big turn-off.
ALSO. Unlike Austin Powers, Dr. Evil LOVES using gadgets and is fantastic at utilizing them for his missions because he's really good with electronics. This works super well in his favor as a hero!
Dr. Evil probably has many "Bond girls" across his journeys as a spy. But I think they'd be replaced with the girls that he uses as distractions for Austin. Frau Farbissina (of course,) Ivana Humpalot, and Alotta Fagina would be his big 3. And vice versa for Austin. They work more as spies for him, but he's probably still close with them because he still just wants to have a groovy time. I would hope he gets a singing moment with Ming Tea in the same way Dr. Evil gets his rap songs.
Oh and of course... Mini Me. He's probably the most useful companion to Dr. Evil and is possibly a better spy than he is, but we don't talk about that shhhhh.
I don't know if Austin would have something else that happens in place of getting a Mini Me. Maybe he would get some kind of fembot-esque version of himself that captures his own synthetic mojo? (which... I have thoughts on this concept alone... and might make another post about it separately some day.)
I really should do fanart of this... THANK YOU FOR THE SUBMISSION AGAIN!!! I LOVE WHEN YOU PEOPLE FEED MY BRAIN WITH AUSTIN POWERS IDEAS!!!! FEED ME!!!
"It is late. Let me say good night to you now. My dearest Lucile," he kissed her on both cheeks, "Camille, my friend," he shook his hand and patted him on the shoulder. "Please continue to have fun. I will find my own way out."
“Wait. I’ll at least walk you to the door if I can’t convince you to stay here longer.” Together they walked out into the hallway and down the stairs. They stopped at the entrance.
“It was a lovely celebration, wasn’t it, Maxime? Thanks for coming.” Camille, already quite drunk, hugged him warmly. “See you tomorrow?”
"If it's not too much trouble, I'd be happy for you to come. But wouldn't you rather spend time with your new wife? That would be understandable."
"No… no, I will come to you and we will discuss what needs to be done. The revolution will not wait."
“And the honeymoon can wait, right?” Maxime replied. He smiled amusedly. But Camille grabbed his hand with urgency.
"I want to return the favor. Please let me do this."
"Of course, if you want. And congratulations again. You and Lucile are a beautiful couple."
"Aren't we? Lucile is wonderful. I hope you weren't too bored. I know you don't enjoy these things much."
"Nonsense. I had a lot of fun. Thank you very much for the invitation."
"How could I leave out my best friend? … Do you remember… what I promised you in college? That night in the garden…” he blushed a little at the mention of it. “I mean… this wedding won’t change how I feel about you.”
Maxime pulled his hand away.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Camille," he said, far too sober for such a conversation. "Go back to your wife and your guests. They're waiting for you."
Camille looked at him for a long, searching moment. Then he laughed.
"You can't lie, Maxime. Of course you know that. I told you I had more than just friendly feelings for you, and you allowed me to…"
“Stop it right now, Camille.” Maxime’s good humor was gone.
“…you liked it back then,” Camille shrugged. But he backed away. “Forgive me. I’m drunk. I just got married.”
"You did," Maxime agreed. He reached out and placed his hand briefly on Camille's cheek. "You should confess your love to your wife."
“I’ll go,” Camille nodded. He rubbed his face lightly against his friend’s hand and smiled at him. “Good night, Maxime.” He opened the door for him.
Maxime put on his hat and looked back one last time.
